I currently own an ASUS G751 laptop with the following specs:
i7-4720HQ 2.6GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M
16GB RAM
I recently found a GL702VM laptop for $800 with the following specs:
Intel Core i7-6700HQ 2.6GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5 VR Ready
16GB RAM
My G751 is a great laptop and I absolutely love it because of the big vents in the back do a great job keeping the system cool. So here is the breakdown, I can sell my G751 for $750 and spend another $50 for this laptop upgrade. Although, looking at the online reviews of the GL702VM, it seems like it can overheat easily, which sounds really risky to me. Even to speak the vents on the GL702VM don't like nice and big and circulating for the system. I do not know much about the GL702VM model and everyone's experiences with it. But is this worth the trade for me or should I hold off on getting the GL702VM?
In addition, I have never had issues with my G751 model overheating at all, while playing games which is great.

I'll be brutally honest with you.
Anything you did with your old notebook in terms of gaming, even under hard throttle state, the GL 702 will do it way better.
The cooling of the GL702VM is absolutely pathethic, however the hardware in the notebook is actually extremely efficient, I dare say it's the most efficient parts you can get. With a repaste and undervolt, your notebook will stay cool and quiet. If you like the GL702VM, then go for it. Its a major improvement in terms of performannce.
Once you recieved the notebook, repaste it with ICDiamond, undervolt the CPU by -150mv and undervolt the GPU a bit. In gaming the system will likely only consume around 90-100w, which is very little and have tons more fps than you have currently. -
Hm I do like it, I am just afraid with the cooling system. Honestly, I have no idea how to do a repaste or undervolt the CPU and GPU. Are there simple guides out there I can follow? The last thing I want to do is destroy the laptop from trying to repaste it incorrectly or not undervolting it correctly.
Well it really sounds like, from what you are saying it is worth getting the GL702VM and selling my current laptop model. -
It's really easy and you will have a hard time unintenionally destroy anything. Once you got the notebook repasted with ICDiamond, you can then throw me a priviate msg, I'll then setup the GPU and CPU with you.Last edited by a moderator: Jun 30, 2018 -
Sweet! Thanks Danish, I really appreciate it. I will send you an inbox about setting up the GPU/CPU when I get it. It will probably take a week or 2 I cannot get it right away due to availability.
Worth the Upgrade?
