Got the top of the line ASUS gaming laptop ordered and also a Logitech G5 Laser Mouse But, never played a computer game in my life. So how do I get started? What games I should I start with? did my research on the net and couldn't find an article or book to help me get started.
    Thanks

What kinds of games are you interested in?

If you've never played a game before, the biggest challenge will be learning to coordinate your movements with a keyboard and mouse. Like anything else, it takes practice.

Westam you have come to the right place, I am about a year in and enjoying this stuff big time. I would install Steam once you get your machine, and look for playable demos (not trailers) that are often available for various genre from within steam and many other sites like Free Game Downloads - PC Game Patches - PC Game Mods - PC Game Demos

I started here but I only had a 4 year old dell with integrated graphics at the time
Neave Games - Retro arcade games remade in Flash
This site will allow you to play online, free, and with aged hardware.
(IT also works fine with slow DSL connections)

Agreed. Steam has some free games you can try.

Orange Box should get you plenty of Valve games.
Killing Floor I can never get tired of.

But if you really want to play "PC Games"
    - Dawn of War or Starcarft II for strategy games
    - Oblivion IV or Dragon Age for RPG.
    - Witcher

I personally think PC shines with RTS and RPG games.

And if you just want to see how much better PC games look than Console etc? Crysis and Crysis Warhead.

This is a very difficult question to answer. I agree with Ruckus recommendations:

RPG: Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Dragon Age: Origins (The previous three are Dungeons and Dragons style). If you want a Sci-fi RPG try Mass Effect and then Mass Effect 2. Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are awesome apocalypse style RPGs.

Strategy: I am not a strategy guy but Starcraft 2 (Sci-Fi) and you can try Company of Heroes if you like WW II type stuff.

FPS: Call of Duty Modern Warfare, Modern Warfare 2 are good. So is Battlefield Bad Company 2. I enjoy Return to Castle Wolfenstein if you like slightly throwback FPS. Orange Box is a must. Please do not miss it. There is not a bad game in the set. Crysis and Crysis Warhead are also great and are PC exclusive. I believe that Metro 2033 is great although I haven't played it as is the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. I especially enjoyed Borderlands although I played it on my XBox 360.

If you like survivor horror try Dead Space and Dead Space 2.

For Puzzle games try Puzzle Quest and Braid.

I really enjoyed Death Spank and it's sequel if you like hack and slash mixed with a little RPG.

Torchlight was an awesome Diablo style point and click hack and slash.

If you like old school point and click adventures with modern graphics try the Monkey Island series.

There are hundreds of games to choose from. Nothing I listed here will disappoint unless you just happen to not like that style of game.

If you like racing games, I really enjoyed Dirt 2, but I am not a racing guy and that's the only one I own. If you like console style adventure games I like Batman Arkham Asylum but I recommend buying an XBox 360 controller for that game.

All the good deals are on GOG (Good old Games), Steam, or Direct 2 Drive. I have also bought digital download games directly from EA and Microsoft Games for Windows at discounted prices at various times. The primary place to buy digital download games mentioned above is Steam. They are always having sales especially at various holidays.

There are many fantastic games that I did not list. It would be impossible to list everything you should play.

I am particularly an RPG fan so I would also recommend all of the Neverwinter Nights series and Diablo/Diablo 2 although these games have been out for a long time and would not represent what I would call modern graphics. They are awesome but a little dated. The Baldur's Gate series is wonderful as well.

westsam might not want to jump right out and start paying a monthly fee for a game, though. Some casual web games and free Steam demos ought get his feet wet and ease him into things. Also, I'd suggest reading through some game reviews and picking up a PC gaming magazine perhaps. Also, trying a classic or discounted game from various genres is a cheap way to see what one likes and doesn't. Stuff like Doom 3, Unreal Tournament, Command and Conquer, Starcraft 1, Fallout 3, Arkham Asylum, Lego Star Wars, a Tomb Raider game, etc. A free month of an MMO like WoW would be good to see if he wants to invest in it monthly.

Even though I play Battlefield Bad Company 2 /vietnam, the most, I would recommend Team Fortress 2, as it will definitly hook you up.
As some have already mentioned, getting steam would be the best option as your main games hub; TeamFortress 2 is available in several packs as well as standalone on steam, should you decide to buy some.

A good game to start, if you've never played games before, is Puzzle Quest 2, or plants vs. zombies. If you enjoy the puzzles in PQ2, get more puzzle games. If you like the leveling up in PQ2 or PvZ, get RPG games. If you like the fast paced action in either, get some first person shooting games. If you like the strategy, get some RTS or turn based strategy games.

Racing games are a whole different sub-type. Try burnout paradise (Older game) and if you prefer the racing, get things that are racing simulation games. If you like the over the top smashing and crashing, get arcade racing games.

I would avoid this game at all costs. The design of the game will exploit your subconcious into sinking endless hours/days/months/years into this game to get that one 'special' item or get higher level than your friends. MMO games are fun, but their sheer addictiveness is quite difficult to control. I highly recommend single player rpgs, FPS, or RTS. Those are limited to 10 minute matches for fps, 30 minute - 2 hour matches for rts, or whenever you want to quit for single player rpg allowing for a more controlled playing environment.

I agree, but I think the trial is only 10 days. That's probably an ideal length, though, because if the trial were any longer everyone would probably get hooked! If he wants to try the WoW trial, my recommendation is to wait until he can maximize those 10 days (eg: include 2 full weekends of play).

BTW, "Batman: Arkham Asylum Game of the Year Edition" is selling for $7.50 on Steam today. I've never played it, but it sounds like a relatively painless way to put your new laptop to the test! :)

(men of war) and looks very complicated. I didn’t begin to know where to start. I searched the web and found nothing to show or teach me how to play computer games. How do you guys learn to play computer games is my question?
PS I have never played any games like this computer or otherwise but recently purchased all the equipment to play them.
