If you knew that the g73 had all these issues ( Heating, touchpad, keyboard and etc) . Would you still buy it?
-
Absolutely, especially since I got my JH for less than 900 bucks.
-
I don't really want to answer, given the odd poll choices..
-
Hell Yeah! I learnt a lot messing with it.. Mine didn't have problems though..
Panther214 -
Nope - not worth the hassles based on how I used the laptop.
-
Sure. The problems don't really interfere with my day to day activities and gaming/general use is perfectly fine. I wouldn't pay full price though.
-
Yes Yes Yes
-
It is the best Price/Quality Gaming Laptop on the market. Every machine, either has issues or is too expensive (even the most expensive ones have issues).
Anyway probably would buy a Desktop for Gaming and a smaller laptop, for work. -
Yup, I'd buy again. Though, I'd be more careful when I RMA it - I'd make REALLY REALLY clear and certain that they'd better fix it right the first (or second) time.
-
Yes. At the time I bought it, there was no other alternative.
Clevo which is not a laptop.
Alienware which I would never want to be seen in public with and I use my laptop daily in public.
MSI doesn't have a 17" notebook to compare.
G73jh is the only one with a great 17" LED display, sure it's glossy, but whatever. The only one with the i7+HD5870M I wanted with 8GB of ram and the quietest fans ever used on a perfomance notebook.
G73jh is also the only notebook looked like something I could be seen in public with and is something I liked to look at. I'm a minimalist and the all black matte, with no frills looks is great. Sure it's angular and large fan vents, but good enough for me. -

Voted no. It's a great, powerful computer, but the touchpad and keyboard suck. It was always supposed to just sit on a desk with a mouse plugged in; it was never intended to be portable the way my Thinkpad or Elitebook are...but its onboard input devices are a disappointment.
I do love the screen though. -
I voted no. Reason being the call center support and repair facility are both terrible (especially the call center).
Don't get me wrong, the laptops look great, have powerful specs and are at a reasonable price range, however it's having to deal with awful customer/tech support and RMA's taking an eternity. Far too much downtime if something happens ..especially during a semester. Until Asus executives can invest in the call/repair centers, I don't feel like being on hold for hours (one day was on the phone for almost EIGHT hours) or dealing with 4 week RMA's.
I don't like going on my computer and always being nervous that something will fail/break. If Asus adopted the Alienware's next-day home tech or even HP's 4 business day turn-around (including shipping), then I wouldn't be so worried. It is unacceptable for a company to take a month+ to fix defective 2000$ items that are months old. -
Techincally, I don't apply to this poll, but after dealing with the rma dept not once, not twice, but 3 times, I'll never purchase anything with an asus logo on it ever again.
-
never had any problems so i cant check either, never had an "adventure". Besides a couple gsod's totally fixed though after bios and vbios updates.
I choose the third option "Yes". -
Hey, Where's the Yes, I had no more problems than any other computer I've owned?
Cheers, -
In fact, I did. I built a gaming desktop and bought a toshiba portege for work on the go.
I experienced too many problems overall that just weren't worth it in the end. I had RAM that was DOA, a broken key, the well documented video card and keyboard lag issues, rubber feet coming off, and now my battery is completely dead. -
Yeah, the Asus g73jh specs are killer! hands down!
Don't get me wrong guys!
i Love this laptop now! but it was a really pain in the @ss to get it to work nicely! even tho from time to time the speakers go bizarre on me!
but if i could go back in time, i would've saved a little more $$ and tried to get a better machine... clevo perhaps not sure.. -
If Gary comes out with a fix, then yes + all my children will buy ASUS, if not, never touching an ASUS product again. We wait.
-
-
I would say yes... like PhnX said though as long as Asus makes it right. I can understand how a company can make a mistake. If they do make a mistake though they need to make it right. I think the timeline on the issues not being addressed on the G73 are getting longer than any reasonable owner can tolerate though. We need the fixes now!
-
I didn't answer the poll because my appropriate answer isn't there.
I bought my g73 for $860 an to this day Im glad I did. Others paid almost double that amount for the same thing. My only real issue is the touchpad, which sucks, but it doesn't bother me too much as I use my mouse 99% of the time.
Would I buy it again? For original price or even $860+, hell no. For $600-700 maybe. -

I'd buy it again, given that I won't be a guinea pig for the 2nd time, G73JH are plagued with problems (although almost all are solvable but some aren't as of the moment).
-
Hell yes.
Although I love adventure, my G73JH has not been an adventure. If it didn't do everything I demanded and expected from it I would have returned it long ago. -
Did I mention I agree with you?
Did Not Vote - Because the ballat seems to be biased towards a negative - I've had nothing but positive to say about my G73 baby!!!

I mean, why not just have these choices...
1) Hell no!!!
2) Hell Yes - I love owning a POS and I'll buy anything Asus waves in front of me whether it works or not!!!
3) NO! but next time i will check the forums first, because other people with unknown computer skills/literacy should really decide what I need and what's good or bad!

@MarkS
Hillarious!!! - Got a good Laugh out of that - Thanks for the Smiles!!!

But let's face the facts, that this notebook isn't for everyone.. if you aren't a computer expert or moderate.. it is very hard to sort out its problems if you happen to have them......
It's like buying a car, a really nice car... and when u step on the gas it shuts down because the engine is getting to hot....and you have to open it up to fix it... ( -
I think i'll try Clevo next time, seems they are very uptodate with the latest tech and good build quality.
my G73 has been very good, some minor hiccups here and there but nothing major. -
I have never had an issue with my BB G73jh. I have upgraded to ssd, used tweaks, but all because I wanted it to be like the 6 million dollar man, better, faster, stronger. No issues at all.
-
Anyone out there have a G73SW-A1 yet? I'd be interested in hearing comparisons to the JW and JH models.
-
do a fresh install, all up to date drivers and youll never have any issue...thats what upgraded drivers are for...every piece of technology has its problems, how you handle that is the real question
-
I have no regrets with my g73. I vote yes. Ever since the vbios update months ago, I was happy that asus has fixed what should of never happened in the first place. The missing keystrokes is an interesting issue as not everyone has this issue (I don't). I'm not sure if the same can be said about the touch pad or not.
-
Of course I would, since i have had no issues with mine whatsoever.
-
hell yeah, I haven't experience any of the issues that some have. Only thing I would do differently is get the 1080p screen
-
I do experience problems with the touchpad and missing keystrokes, but its not that big of an issue and i usually use a mouse. i have never had a problem with mine overheating. this laptop can do anything and everything i want it to do, so yes I would definately buy it again
-
I would by it, thou has problems and thou i was very disapointed at the time i bougt it.
-
-
Got mine for $1000 at best buy and i love it never had a prob with it and it rocks every game i toss at it maxed out.
the only thing i want to do its a fresh install of windows 7 to get all the junk that asus has on here was told it mine run stuff faster.
anyways i give it 10 / 10 2 tumbs up -
Totally worth it. The notebook is just amazing. The specs are off the charts for the price range.Totally worth it. Yes...a few nagging issues..but definitely worth it.
Would you Buy it Again?
