Asus - Factory-Refurbished Laptop / Intel® Core i7 Processor / 17.3" Display - Black - G73JHRF-RBBX05
So, the previous BB version of the G73JH has made it to the outlet center, I was hoping to buy the basic same version from newegg with a 2 year warranty added to it, the starting price was basically the same as this price. Ofcourse they are all bought out in about 5 minutes after its back in stock each time.
Of course this one has no option to extend the warranty, its the basic 3month plan. but $850 for that beast, even if you have to bios flash and remove drivers etc is hard to hold off on hoping newegg gets it back in stock.
So my other question would be, anyone here with a refurb from BB that ended up with no problems? I assume by posting this these will likely be bought up like candy but I cant go with a 3 month refurb warranty without at least hearing some perspectives on it.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
For that link. I have been saving and saving trying to get enough for the BST7, but I think with this, I'll just have to go for it. Gives me money for a warranty and to upgrade it if I want!
Anyone else think WE should pass this up? -
i would buy any G73...and at 850$, its a good deal. I dont know people are so scared about refurs, i always say, what ever had to break in that laptop, broke, so your ok

Warranty will be a sacrifice, but 850 is a very good price on a G73.
-
I have to wait for the money I deposited earlier today to hit my account and then I will buy it. God I hope it last till Tuesday -

If you don't run into problems within 3 months you can be relatively confident about not having a lemon... and then you can tear it apart and not care about voiding the warranty.
Keep in mind the screen is the other obvious compromise, I speak from direct experience on this. -
I am already so stoked, I can't wait for this -

I have this model (non-refurb, bought used) and it's got the AUO. I'm not positive about which you'd get, especially from a refurb, but it's not an easy screen for me to look at. I'll be swapping it out if I keep this system into the new year (currently undecided). I love everything else about the machine... don't get me wrong.

100$ for the wuxga screen

The nice thing about this as well versus Cowboom is that these are refurbished by Asus. My brother has one from Cowboom (yes, cheaper, $829.99) and the Cowboom one had a blank hard drive with no media. Thanks to the folks here and the various links, we got things going. Also, you can ship to the store closest to you for pick up. That way, you can check it out in person, boot it up, and if it's a dud, reject it on the spot.
-
I JUST ORDERED MINE FOR IN-STORE PICKUP!!!!
I'm super stoked about this!
Now if I could only figure out why the pickup date went from 5-7 days to 9-14????? -
Wow...and I just got my refurb from Tigerdirect for $100 more 5 days ago...oh well...
-
@Omniscient: Please let me know how it turns out once you receive it!
I'm very happy to see this as well.Since it's an in-store pickup only, there is no way of telling if they ship the right model with the good screen over.
The only differences I see between this and the BST7 is a slightly slower CPU, a 7200RPM harddrive but 500GB only (not 640GB), it's refurbished and cheaper (old user might have had a really bad experience)!, and a 90 day warranty which is not upgradeable according to the OP.
Hopefully ASUS successfully repasted the GPU!
I think that should wait for the Newegg to become in stock because you can order warranty, though, based on the reviews, many people have had huge problems with the whole refurbished deal.
I wonder which one is more worth it? The screen upgrade is nice, $100 for 900p or 1080p and where can one get that from? -
I think it is a smoking deal. And like the moderator said, if it dowsnt break in 90 days it probably won't break. The only downside with bestbuy is tax, that makes the newegg one slightly cheaper but it is never in stock. With the extra $300-400 you save, you can get a 120gb SSD, a nice case, a gaming mouse&headset and still have money to spare.
-
I have NEVER really gamed on PC, so this will be my first venture! -
I would seriously consider a SSD. No other upgrade will improve your performance like a SSD will. You can get a 60gb sandforce (currenty the fastest controller) drive like the ocz agility 2 or vertex 2 for $100 after rebate if you buy when they are on sale (and you seem like someone who looks for sales). 60gb will fit win7, office, all your normal programs, and 2-4 big games. I got 120gb so I'd have room to grow (paid $195 but could have paid $185 if I'd waited till black Friday). The intel drives are good too just not as fast.
You can upgrade to 8gb or ram for 28.50$ at newegg, but it won't improve your performance much at all. 4gb is current sweetspot, anything over provides a negligible improvement for games. But 28$ isn't much so it is a cheap upgrade.
I use the logitech m518 mouse $25 after rebate on sale. But any gaming mouse will do. You can spend a lot here, but it is all personal taste. Headsets are also personal preference. I tried the logitech G35 which is excellent, but my high quality earbuds with the creative x-fi software CMSS3d work fine for me.
The key is to wait for sales. I recommend signing up for neweggs eblast to find out about sale and watch techbargains.com you should be able to find everything you need on sale within 30 days if you watch the sales.
I'll update this with links when I get a chance. -
-
If you're going to get a SSD and don't want to deal with rebates, you can also get a Microcenter labeled 64gb SSD from them for $99, regular everyday price. It's a relabeled A-Data drive with a Sandforce SF1200 controller so it supports TRIM and is the same controller as the OCZ.

I have one of these in my wife's lappy and it just flies.... -
The link doesn't work but I found it by searching 64gb ssd. That is am excellent deal. Rebates are a hassle. I'd buy that any day. I don't have any experience with a-data, so I don't know how well it goes with the g73. My GSkill I would not recommend. It works great, but they have a high defective rate (my 1st one was). I've also heard of trouble with crucial and corsair on the G73. That's why I recommended OCZ and intel. But at that price there is no reason not to try this drive.
-
I fixed the link, thanks for the heads up. My brother has the Microcenter one in his G73 and it seems to work fine. it's been in there for over a month now and he's on his G73 all the time, so no troubles so far. Yeah, I heard about the issues with the G.Skill. I know the Intel works for sure since that's the drive he was using in his G73 before I inherited it for my X200.

Thanks guys, I will probably pick one up after the first of the year, maybe after CES and all the new toys come out and the prices drop :-D

back to your regularly scheduled thread... -
I just realized the only bad part about this for me, is the fact that it comes with home premium and not business! Whatever, i'll just put ultimate on it and be done with it.

After lurking this forum for 6 months, my first post is...
Just ordered this one 10 minutes ago!
Can't wait to see what screen manufacturer, and upgrade to an LG 1080 if needed, and drop a 128 ssd in her.
Woohoo, even the wife (accountant) is happy with me
Should I do the cardboard and velcro or ear plug method to mount the SSD, or order the fantastically over-priced caddy? -
-
why does it says
Intel® Core™ i7-720QM processor
Features an 8MB L2 cache and 1.6GHz processor speed.
aren't the 720qm processors with 6mb l2 cache? -
Check the for sale forum here. One of the members has some. I use cardboard and it is fine.
-
For a nice headset I would recommend the Plantronics USB .655.

Just got my g73jh refurb from btotech, came with updated bios, furmark not going over 79C (20 room temp), zero other problems. I think I'm beginning to trust refurbs more
Some guy was probably getting GSOD's with the older bios, and now I bought it for 999$. -
This is apparently dead now, no longer shows up on BB's site.
Thankfully I did get an order in on Sunday night. I've been waiting for the Refurb one to come in stock on NewEgg, so I was delighted to see this for pretty much the same price.
Also got a notification that it was on the way to my local store for pickup. Hopefully it will be in early next week! -
I had been checking my order like 30 times a day waiting on the "shipped" status. It never came. Girl checked her email this morning and I got the same email. I can't wait.
I was going to buy the BST7, but this is a much better deal so I'm really excited to get my hands on it. Anyone know how long it usually takes them to get it to the store? 3-5 days? More? Less? -
Yay! -
Damn, now I cant make money on selling mine!
-
Just got my email from BB saying ready for pick-up!
(Sorry Omni & Maquis) -
-
I just got mine. I'm in the process of removing all the crap that is on it (Almost done) haha. I don't have time to install windows again right now. I'm on the search for temp monitors and such now.
-
Congrats, took long enough. I thought yours was comin last week. Have fun updating everything.
-
The only real thing i have left to do is flash the bios and Vbios and I should be good to go. I lost my USB drive somewhere and can't find it for the life of me. -
Asus - Factory-Refurbished Laptop / Intel® Core i7 Processor / 17.3" Display - Black - G73JHRF-RBBX05
ITSSSSSSSS BACCCKKKKKKKK...
Get them while you can guys. I am on mine right now, and its perfect inside and out. I only updated the new bios and cleaned mine up. I have great temps and not a single SOD, NOTHING!
849.99 Can't beat it! -
-
Yea, I never see them on Cowboom. I may start looking for one for my friend.
-
Craigslist and eBay have great deals. One guy here got a new A1 for $1000 on eBay by taking a risk on a low feedback seller (no negatives just low). These refurbs are excellent.
Would you buy this g73?
