I recently got my G73JW, and the first thing I did was do a clean install of Windows 7 to set up a dual-boot, and get rid of most of the pre-installed stuff I'd never use.

However, I now have a problem, which is that the Creative X-FI MB2 package which supposedly came with this laptop isn't available on either Asus (hardly surprising) or Creative's (?) website, and from what I gather, the JW does not have a driver/utilities DVD.

Could someone be kind enough to give me a working link to download it?

The JW does have a Driver and Application DVD. You may not have gotten one with your particular unit.

Anyhoo, I know you can buy a set of Win7 OS and the Driver CD from Asus for $30, if you want propers.

You can also download the JW Disc from here

Creative X-FI MB2 is either NOT installed as factory default on my G53JW. I only have Realtek HD Audio Manager+ Creative Alchemy and Creative THXStudio. Why is Creative X-FI MB2 software missing? Or is Alchemy enough to enable EAX HD 5.0 if the game supports it?

ALchemy is the EAX 5.0 support :)

It seems MB2 is optional and Alchemy should do the job alone. Thanks Chastity :)

Creative X-Fi MB does not come preinstalled in the G53JW. Mine did not have it. And also, after installing it, i couldn't get it to work cuz it said something like no supported hardware found or something to that tune. So uninstalled it. I'm using ALchemy that comes with the G53JW. I just realised that the G53JH or SW might come preinstalled with it. If so, can you please let me know which Realtek audio card you have in your laptop?

I don't know about that. ALchemy converts DirectSound3D (years old games) to OpenAL. If you don't have OpenAL installed (X-Fi MB driver) then nothing's gonna happen. What may also happen is if the Creative 3D library that X-Fi MB installs isn't there pretending to be X-Fi hardware, the OpenAL driver may switch to a basic software fallback mode.

Installing a Creative driver to a non-Creative-soundcard-having notebook is funny though if it's applicable for sake of audio emulation, it must have been installed before relasing it as factory-default. Most of G53JW users only have Alchemy+THXStudio+Realtek HD Audio and no unknown devices in device manager.

Actually it's problem of Asus, like many other situations, Asus's e-manual is poorly written that has no clue about it.

BTW, is there a known complete list of games that support EAX?
    I found:
    http://www.creative.com/soundblaster/technology/welcome_flash.asp?j1=eax
..but Alchemy, EAX, EAX HD, OpenAL seem seperated in the table, what does it mean?
