I installed latest vmware player and it runs xp pro great. Assign like 1 GB+ ram to it propably will solve slowness problem. Unless you're talking about gaming on xp, that I haven't tried on VMware player yet.

Try and explain your purpose and I can help you out.
Virtualization RARELY works for games, usually OLD games, as you can't really use hardware acceleration within a VM.
The bluescreen I would say is a driver issue, I was thinking about attempting to install XP on mine so I will let you know what I find, you may need to use a USB Floppy drive to supply drivers to the installation, or slipstream the drivers into a new XP disk. -
XP virtualization only works if you upgrade your W7 Professional version to W7 Ultimate. Compatibility is not the same as virtualization. I know it's a confusion for some.
I haven't read too much about the performance/success people are having with XP virtualization, but it does save you from having to install a 2nd OS on your machine. -
XP Virtualization is a part of W7 Pro AND W7 Ultimate.
-
Sorry
I believe you are both thinking of the confusingly marketed XP-MODE which uses Microsoft VirtualPC, and is limited to the 2 versions above, virtualization of XP is not limited to microsofts offerings
You can Virtualize pretty much any OS with any other OS, it's not restricted to W7 Pro and W7 Ultimate, Microsoft doesn't even MAKE any decent virtualization software.
VMware workstation (pay), player (free) and server (free) will all run on ANY version of windows from XP onwards (XP all versions, server 2003 all versions, vista all versions, 7 all versions) it also functions on most linux distributions and theres versions for apple computers/servers, not to mention offerings from Oracle, formerly Sun and Innotek's work on VirtualBox and on a smaller scale Qemu, all of which run on all versions of windows.
Microsoft VirtualPC is probably the worst virtualization hyper-visor in existence. -
Regarding to the first post.
Where exactly do you get the BSOD?
I mean, does it happen after the first or second reboot?
Or does it happen while the installation is doing something (besides reboot)?
Is Win7 running without an issue? -
You may need the AHCI Drivers to be installed first or set the bios to use IDE and see if that helps.
-
You could try turning AHCI off and setting the SATA to compatibility mode -

no love for XP? I'm still of the opinion that apart from DX11... XP has everything you need...
-
Yes, it has everything, including all the niggles that have been addressed in later OS's. I have found that once I got used to Windows 7, XP has a lot of annoying things about it, especially regarding Wifi.
-
Networking is the 1 thing I wish windows 7 kept from xp
Stupid network identification bull, it was so much easier in XP... it's like everything is covered in cotton wool these days
Truly an argument for another thread, we shall have to agree to disagree
I have a spare HDD at work, tomorrow night I shall attempt an XP install -
i am working on android and need Eclipse IDE for that.
I have eclipse for win 7 but that screws up every 60secs and i am tired.
i just want to use plain old xp like in my office pc so i can work @ home also.
in short -- Need Eclipse (one without crashing) on XP. -
-
As it's already been said, you're missing the chipset drivers that XP needs in order to work with SATA drives.
EDIT: woot! 1500th post! -
set the bios option to use IDE instead of AHCI then install.

Feel free to PM me about this, I can help you out -
even after changing from AHCI to ide crashed earlier but..
today again i burnt my xp cd using the slowest speed and tried with IDE and i got the good old XP back./
though its only 32 bit os i have.
i managed to install the graphics drivers from the asus driver cd and wireless drivers from atheros..
thanks all for your help.
i now have XP in my G73 and works like a charm. -

do you use vmware player (free), vmware Server(free) or vmware workstation (pay, but super awesome)?
I use player on the laptop, but server on my PC because I can rely on it to boot up as a service if someone reboots my physical PC for some reason at work and I want to remote into it.
