Ok, So I am looking at one of these from Best Buy, as a replacement for my Gateway P7805u. Is the screen and lack of BlueRay really the only difference? I am looking at a total cost including Taxes of 1274.99. Although, I have been known to deal a little in person to get a better price.
Also, is there a big difference between the G73JH and the G73JW?
And, are the horror stories about Asus' tech support true? Kinda worried about buying a laptop and then having to fight for days to get the thing repaired should something happen.
Thank You,

There are literally dozens upon dozens of threads that answer your question. Actually there are dozens of threads asking the exact same questions.

The Best Buy model is the G73JH-BST7. There are a couple of threads here about that model. It lacks blu-ray and has a 1600x900 screen and uses the ATI HD 5870 rather than the Nvidia 460M which the JW has. Also, it comes with a 640GB, 5400rpm HDD. One hard drive only but the other bay is there for a 2nd one (but they don't include the bracket for it). Best Buy doesn't carry the JW (yet), only the JH.
As Ruckus said, there is already a lot of info on all these models, including the BB model. Look around. Search.
I can't give any info about Asus service. I've had 2 Asus models and never needed to contact them. -

Also the Best buy model comes with a 1 year limited warranty and the G73jw and jh models that you can purchase outside of BB both come with a 2 year warranty and 1 year of accidental damage.

How about this one: link
It doesn't have Bluray, or the AMD GPU driver issues that have been reported but does have USB 3.0 -
I have the older best buy model, and I am quite satisfied with it. I imagine the newer one would be even nicer (except for the hdd). If the screen is an issue for you, there's some threads about replacing the screen around if you search a bit.

I have the Best Buy model and I like it. Saved a few hundred dollars and I did not need the Bluray disk drive. Also my computer has the 7200 rpm drive in it for the Hard drive, I think some of the older models that first came out with Best Buy had the slower drive.
I will say though if you buy one a Best Buy then by all means get the insurance that they offer, if you do not they will not help you in anyway after the 14 days are up for the return. So if you have a problem after that and ASUS tells you to take it to BB and they will fix it as they have a contract with them, they will not. I know this as I went through the mess with BestBuy and it was not ASUS that was the problem.
Over all I really like this model and it is fast, it has ran any game that I have thrown at it and ran it well. So as a gaming machine it does what it says it will do.
Also I run Video and audio Forensics on this machine . And it runs these high end programs with ease, so you will be able to run just about anything you want on this computer. And my is the G73JH model with the ATI/AMD 5870 video card. -
Given Asus's service record, I'm not sure the extra year of warranty is really worth it.

The G73jh supposedly has a lot of problems that are fixed in the JW, u can see it just by skimming through the Asus forums

I have been using my BB BST7 from Sept 19 till now 7 days aweek for 8 to 12 hours.
Mostly office work with a second screen attached.
It has worked out well.
The game I play is World of Warcraft... it does very well.
I use a USB keyboard and wirless mouse and have no issues...
My bigeest worry is the battery, but heck, I did not buy this to be portable.
So the fact the battery last about 1 hours is ok with me...
My only issue was the CPS fan bearing went bad, but that was fixed. THen GEEK squad forgot 2 screws in the hard drive. Not to bad, as I got them to replace it.... -
the JH literally has all its problems fixed.. touchpad lagg is only issue but even JW has it. Other issue is that JW although using same screens is having worse screens with a lot of backlight bleed. Of course , the 5870M is being beaten by NVIDIA in DX11 but how many games have or use DX11 properly? Anyways , ATI's drivers are performing better and from what i know , in jan the 11.0 driver will allow ATI to own NVIDIA even in DX11... I really don't see why you shouldn't buy the JH. I have and love it!
