i'm thinking of getting one too... one of the steelseries ones... what material is it BTW?

FYI: My MDR-SA5000's arrived, and are a nice contrast to the Senn HD580's. The 70ohm, 102dB sensitivity makes them great for good portable gear. my 5Gen iPod still needs an amp for good bass. Will test a little later with the G73 line-out. The headphone jack on the Yamaha RX-V863 has no problems whatsoever driving these, but then again, it could drive the HD580s, with the volume knob getting near 0db

Sure, then I can buy moar stuff!!
Anyhoo. Just to go OT, I decided to retire my Antec 1200 for a Cooler Master HAF X case. Since I have a CP850 psu, I needed an atx one now. And to futureproof it, I decided to go to the next level up: 1000w. So I went to Micro Center (love this place) and found the Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold was 20% off. The 1000w was $199, tho the 1200w was $239. So here's a new pic of my nice setup:
These 230cm fans move air, and the case is rather quiet to boot. The crickets outside my window are more noisy. 1 320mm + 2x 200mm fans + 1x 140mm for rear makes for a sweet setup. Also has a wind tunnel for a 120mm to blow right onto the videocards. I haven't installed that yet. So yes, the PSU is overkill for my rig. -
nice rig chast! -
I have an Antec Twelve Hundred tower case with an Antec CP850 Power Supply. The power supply is not a standard size for consumer cases, it's larger. (more common size for server cases) I got it because at the time, 850w PSUs were expensive, and this one was about $120. The trick tho is that Antec is the only one supporting that PSU size.
My issues with the 1200 are several:
1) I have 8 120mm fans running in this damn thing, and a 220mm fan on top. Even tho the fans are tuned to slower speeds, it's still a lot of case noise.
2) Blue LEDs everywhere that you cannot turn off! If I want to sleep and need to run the pc overnight, I have BLUE EVERYWHERE!
3) Could use some better cable management.
4) I recently updated the heatsink on the CPU, and I had to remove the motherboard to do it. The backplane panel is not removable, nor does it have a hole where the CPU is.
5) No wheels on it, making moving it on my carpet a PITA.
6) Cramped spacing where the SATA ports are for finger access on my Gigabyte EX58-UD5 motherboard. Also, full length video cards just fit the supplied spacing if you have any internal fans mounted, or if near the HDDs.
7) Swapping out a HDD requires removing both side panels, 16 screws, and dealing with a fan cable.
So, I replaced it with the Cooler Master HAF X Tower Computer Case. This unit has 2 200mm fans (side and top), 1 230mm Red LED fan in front, and 1 140mm fan (back). The bigger the fan, the slower it can run and still move a lot of air. Slower speeds = less noise. It also has an on/off switch for the LED lights on the ONE fan that has LED lights. It also has coaster wheels for moving it easily. It also has a vent grill on the underside to allow for an inverted PSU install. This allows the PSU's air to be isolated from the case's interior.
It also sports toolless HDD and optical drive mounting, and easily accessible from the left side panel. It even has 2 front bays for hotswap SATA HDD loading. Sweet.
It has rubberized cable ports for routing cables, a cable shroud for the PSU area to hide them, and a wide CPU access hole on the backplate, and plenty of well-placed beveled openings for cable access as well.
Since I had to replace the PSU, as the case only supports ATX PSU's, I decided to upgrade it as well to make it more future-proof. I replaced it with the Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 1200w. I was originally looking at a 1000w unit, but heck, it was only $40 more, and 98W 12v rail vs 82W on the 1000w. It has a large 130mm fan for silent cooling, and supports modular cabling. It's also 80 Plus Gold rated for efficiency. It's also overkill for my GTX285 SLI setup.I won't be needing to upgrade that PSU, and if I did want to go to a 1600w, I would need to run 30A service from the circuit panel, as the existing standard 20A lines are insufficient.
Since I won't be stressing this badboy at all, I would think my PSU temps will be on the low side, and the efficiency rating will be rather high.
I hope this explains everything more clearly now. -
Does anyone know where I can get the mouse that came with G73 or anybody here wants to sell theirs ?

Mouse: Voodoo DNA Gaming Mouse (same as Asus G73 mouse), and Gigabyte Wireless 1600dpi mouse. I'm happy with both on a regular mousepad.
Headseat: Bose QC 15 and laptop mic
@Chastity, Microcenter is one of my favorite stores. I've rarely been in a more thoroughly merchandised store. Just try walking in without spending $3 on a trinket you realize you have to have.
Which location do you frequent? Mine is in Michigan, and it's the only one in the state. You remind me of someone I met at game design school named Mike. He was a pretty funny guy, good times then. Sorry if this is creeping ya out but I had to ask I guess. Don't ban me please -
I go to the recently new store in Yonkers, NY, so you are far enough that I don't need to file a restraining order.
-
Hmm. I heard that Cooler Master PSU's weren't amazing in terms of quality. You don't want to cheap out on PSU's as they can take your whole system down with them.
BTW Chastity, that is one hell of a rig. All that's needed is to upgrade to two GTX 480's now. You definitely have the power for it. -
my desktop is no where near as nice as your rig.
C2D E6550 @ 3.03ghz, 4GB Patriot DDR2, GTX260, 2x 320GB SATA drives in RAID 0, 1x 1TB WD Black Edition drive for storage.
i went back and forth on building a new desktop or buying a laptop...i ended up with the G73JH...i think i'm going to throw a couple seagate 1TB drives in my tower and mirror them to use as an over powered file server
stupid WD Black drives...can't raid them... -

I suspect there is some variance in the quality of the units, maybe the difference with 1st gen versus later units.
But still, even if it's barely Gold, it's still GOLD level. Some great units are Silver at best. And I'll hardly be pushing the PSU, so I am not worrying about it. In regards to upgrades, I'm going to see how the 6870's do.
EDIT: I just wanted to add some info on the Cooler Master HAF X Case. It was a pure pleasure working on it. The fans are quiet, and move enough air that temps with the side panel on or off are the same. The tool-less HHD bays and optical bays were a snap. The unit even supports hotswap SATA if the controller is on AHCI/RAID. I recently used it to do some data recovery of one of my server drives. It can mount either 3.5" or 2.5" drives. With the big video cards in, you can still get your fingers in there to get access to some of the SATA ports. There's a very accessible opening for getting behind to the CPU heatsink bracket. And the LED's are not super-bright, and the red is a nice break from BLUE EVERYWHERE. Plus there is a turn-off switch. It even came with an extension for the 8-port power connector. (You can see it in the pic)
Plus, this case supports the latest in watercooling mods, which pics are rampant on the internets. -

too funny. You're lucky though, I've heard of people doing way crazier stuff on that nasty sleeping pill. Last time I had my computer on while taking Ambien I bought a couple of Steam games
My girlfriend was not too happy.

My desktop runs a Logitech G700, Razer Mamba, Xtrac Ripper, Saitek Eclipse II, and Eyefinity. The G73JH is like the baby-size version of my normal setup. It's adorable.
