I just ordered the Zalman NC2500 Plus to keep my G53JW cool. I thought it was a great combo to have a HDD enclosure built into the cooler. I also read a glowing user review from somebody who has used this with the G73. Also I thought the rear air intakes really matched to look of the G53 exhausts. (Super Quad Stealth Bomber Awesomeness!)
However, after a bit of thought on this, I do have some reservations.
The laptop exhausts heat from the rear and the cooler intakes air from the rear as well. When combined, wouldn't the cooler be sucking in the hot exhaust of the laptop and feeding it right back in and raising temps even more than without the whole thing?
I know that hot air rises and the cooler sits below, but still...
Does anyone have any experience with this combo or something similar?
I've got 24 hours to cancel my order, so any quick responses will be appreciated.![]()

BloodStriker, I do not have experience , just have been reading the forums for 18 months, it seems the best you can get is a few degrees reduction if any. What are you present ambient, idle and in game temps now?
Also proping up the back of the machine seems to get me 2 or 3 degrees and downclocking while not gaming or watching video get a legit 5 degrees -
Hi Josea,
I wanted to get the cooler and see my results before I replied. You were right pretty spot on.
My results are exactly the same with and without the cooler. I used Prime 95 to test the CPU and Nvidia Island on max settings to simulate in game.
CPU idle/max is 41/86, GPU idle/Max is 49/80, HDD idle/max is 30/35. No change in idle and max for the SSD.
I was expecting at least 2 degrees? Either way, I was okay with minimal cooling but the worst part about this whole experience is that the USB hub won't even detect. I get an error message that says that Windows does not recognize this USB device. I can't the the HDD bay or USB hub working. So it's just a hunk of $50 plastic that has zero functionality other than to raise my laptop at an angle.
I'm going to test to see if the hub is detected on my desktop to see if it's faulty or if I have a controller issue on my laptop. Either way, this product is going to be returned after the weekend. -
Depends is you take the maintenance panel off.
With my Storm is I remove the maintenance panel and give it full air clearance underneith and spam the fans at 2700RPM I can drop 8-10oC. But it is pretty noisy
With my Zalman 3000U I dropped around 3-4oC but it was stealthy quiet. -
Experienced 4-5oc drop on any ambience using Cooler Master Notepal U2, my 2nd cooler and is built tough. Has movable, changeable fans and most of all it is cheap at $20.
