How do I get rid of these stupid popups for capslock, scrolllock and such?

This question gets asked often, and I still can't figure out how to turn the indicators ON! Never seen them before! :)

My external USB keyboard provides indicator popups that I can turn on/off, but I can't find an option for the built-in keyboard.

Interesting question. I just fired up the task manager to see if there was an EXE that fires when you press Caps Lock. I was thinking if there was, renaming it might prevent the indicator. Probably a silly guess, but there are some exe files in the package that fire when you do certain functions. For instance, when you disable or enable the touchpad it runs an executable to make that happen.

Anyway, if the task manager has focus, the caps lock indicator doesn't fire. This makes me think the caps lock indicator is conditional on what program has focus. I wonder if there is a white list in the registry or something that controls when it displays and when it doesn't.

Edit: Mine also doesn't fire the indicator when the Registry Editor is open.

I thought we were talking about the indicator that pops up on the screen. It is a big square that is semi-transparent gray that indicates the sate of the caps lock key when you press it.

This stupid popups is caused by the process "bttray.exe"
    Try this:

    Click Start
Type Regedit (If asked a question click YES)
    Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    Also SOFTWARE
    Then Widcomm
    Next is BTConfig
    After that General
    Finally open KeyIndication
Change value data from 1 to 0
    Restart Laptop

    Hopefully this works :D

... I havn't had that grey box since I did a fresh install. Don't get me wrong, I don't want it back ... but a fresh install with nothing except the ATK drivers and everything else from the manufacturers site seems to fix 99% of problems I encounter on every asus computer.
