Well im pretty new to the g73jh laptop... I just traded one of my core 2 quad desktop rigs to a family member for there g73jh best buy edition. But now im in need of a screen upgrade as this AUO B173RW01 v3 is getting my nerves. Im looking for a 1080 matte screen. I just dont know if i should go with the lg or auo. What seems to be the best? I hear a lot about the AUO B173HW01 v5 screen. Can i get some suggestions before i buy?

I did the same upgrade and I am extremely happy with the result. The colours are better, its not glossy and its 1920*1080. Everything looks amazing, I don't even now how I used the 1600*900 panel. You will notice a performance drop in games though... not massive but very evident.

A worthy drop in performance however ^^ 1080p is a such a huge increase from 900p in terms of pixels.

I didn't say it wasn't. Games look so much better at the higher pixel density of the new panel, 900p just isn't high enough on a 17 inch monitor (IMO). Smoother lines without AA, high res textures look AMAZING at 1080p, you may as well use up that 1GB of video ram you have.

I just posted in this thread G73JH screen problem about ordering and actually receiving this screen in Europe.

Can you share where you bought if from? The shops I find stipulate they "may" (will) ship a different part from a different manufacturer...

    UPDATE:
I ordered from screenintaipei on eBay. I'll post feedback when I get it.

I ordered from screenintaipei. They ship Fedex and you can track every step of it. It should have been delivered yesterday (3 days order-to-door from Taiwain to France!) but the delivery guy went to the wrong door... I called and they will deliver today (cross fingers).

I'll definitely post on the screen (quality, etc) and on the shipment (packaging / protection).

I'll then install and cross fingers that there will be no surprises.

I didn't order a new LVDS cable, so if the issue comes from the cable and not the screen, I'll need to be patient for a while before getting the G73 fully back.

In any event, I have high expectations for this screen. I really liked the previous one (Hannstar) *except* for the glossy which got me many a headache trying to work in well-lit environments.

I bough an Chimei 1080p matte screen for my g73jh , my previous screen was 1600x900 , so now I feel the difference .
I guess its the best screen for a g73jh.

OK, so it arrived. I ordered from "screenintaipei" on ebay. 95USD for the screen and 55USD for the shipping. Still much cheaper than in France. I went with them not just because of price, but because all the other sellers state that they will ship you any "100% compatible part" depending on what they have on stock. I called a french pro seller and a UK pro seller and both told me it was roulette... you get whatever screen they send (same resolution, same connector) no matter what you actually order. I don't even think that's legal. Anyway, I wasn't about to play at "guess which screen came in the mail" so I ordered from these guys.

3 days between order and reception. Very good. Perfectly packaged, sent through Fedex, I could watch the progression of the shipment on internet. Well protected with two boxes and tons of blister platic wrapping.

the sticker says its the right part, and hwinfo32 says it's the right part. Windows recognised and installed a driver about "microcode something" (sorry, I didn't write down the text)

I replaced following a youtube video from ASUS G73J G73JH laptop screen replacement procedure - YouTube which is very clear.

It worked right away. At first I found it very white, washed out, but now I'm getting used to it. Still, I'll have to see what I can do about the colors, I wish I could find a color profile someone mentioned on the thread. So far, no good.

I have to say I liked the previous screen colors better. Of course, this is matte and the previous one, the Hannstar was (super) glossy. Same resolution. The blacks and whites were more black and white. For now, I find this screen more dark grey and clear grey rather than black and white, but as I mentioned, I need to calibrate. I have already lowered the brightness to minimum.

Before I forget: I didn't change the LVDS cable. So it was only the screen.

I'm writing this on the G73. I'm eaither getting used to it or it is "warming up" but I find it better than when I started writing.

I'm about to play skyrim to see how it is in the game. (...played, I'm back)

    It's very nice in skyrim. I'm still getting used to the screen, but it is very nice in games;

Thanks for the update, im kinda interested in the other matte screens. A lot of people suggest the AUO one but, i saw someone post a lg one it had great uniformity and black levels. Im not sure what the chi mei screens are like. Theres seems like a lot of options for matte screen now. I want to get the best one available for this laptop.

I am glad you got fixed your problem jeprira :). I just get to use LG modell: LGD025C 120hz and difference is big between previous AUO v5. Both are matte but brightness and smoothness of LG is just beyond anything I had exspected.

Where did you get the LG 120hz screen from? and is it having any problems operating in 120hz mode on the g73jh?

no mate , the hertz doesn't depend on the no of pins , its in built in screen .
I have a 3d lvds cable which fits any screen but doesnt fit the mobo.

Sorry for the miscommunication mate, im not trying to say that pins have anything to do with hz but rather from what i have seen for 17.3 screens that the 120 hz screens have been using a 50pin connector. My statement above was not a general statement but for the g73jh in mind.

Wow might go with that screen as it has higher contrast ratio and faster response time than the auo b173hw01 v5, spec wize its the better (g73jh in mind).

@jmhdj thanks! feels good to have the portable working again. The screen is growing on me. I could swear it is now better than when I first installed.
So the LG is much better? Arrgh... I don't know much about LCDs except what I see... I went with the general consensus on this board that AOU was the best but just in the last few posts two contenders have come out....

In any event, the matte and the fact that it works are the positive things. We the old screen, I'd be having some serious reflexions right now and this one is much better for that.

I don't mind the light of brightness, actually, I have it set up to minimum brightness! I find it way too bright when it is on a higher setting.

Anyway, I'm happy I can actually move it aroud again. A portable permanetly hooked to an external monitor seemed less...portable.

Man i've been wanting to upgrade my screen for a while now. I have the AUO B173RW01 V3 and I'm getting really sick of the terrible contrast ratio and poor viewing angles. When I have the screen at the normal viewing angle and when the top of the screen is showing dark images (like playing a game when it is nighttime), I can see color distortion on the top! It is awful...

What would be the best (and cheapest) 1080p screen to resolve these issues?

Sry I wasnt been clear in last post. New Lg screen is on my new laptop g73sw which i got really cheap. And yes its 50 pin connector type. But i noticed it had absolut same motherboard connector so I did opened my old g73jh and connected screen. I could hear post sound but screen stayed black :(. Sothere is no chance for g73jh with 120hz I think.

I've been following posts around looking for the best in regards to Color, contrast, and brightness. I've found theAUO B173HW01 V.4 (glossy), AUO B173HW01 V.7 (Matte), and more recently the Chimei N173HGE-L11 (Matte) and Chimei N173HGE-L21 (glossy). These four screens are all 1080p 60Hz screens. seeing the specs at eurocom (I'd post a link but this is my first post. just google "Eurocom Adds Yet Another Layer of Upgradeability. Now, LCD" it's the first one for me) 90-95%ntsc 600-650:1 contrast and very nice viewing angles (I looked those up at Panelook) these all are the nicest screens I have found so far. although I have not bought any of them to verify if they are compatible with the g73jh.

Right now I am working with Todd Gillespie at Techexcess to get the specific model I want (he has the Chimei N173HGE-L11) :D

seems like a lot of the Chimei N173HGE-L11 on ebay are only compatible(s) which sucks, safe bet right now on ebay is the auo b173hw01 v5 , i didn't see a v7 version i only saw it for the 15.6" screens
