the random lock up with looping sound happened again, this time i dont even have creative installed and have the latest realtek driver. what can it be?

event log has nothing except the generic "system did not shut down cleanly" event

I did some serching and found this: Blip.tv vs Vimeo.com | Marcel Gagné
in the comments sections a user posts a similar issue, but no one there has a fix.
What resolution were you using when it happened?
Just out of curiosity how fast is your internet connection (download speed)?

    LOL DCX

i just had the same freeze on youtube. the image just freezes and the sound hums like a really short loop.

using 1920x1080 and internet is broadband, dont know speed.

this really looks just like the lock-up with creative audio. but i dont even have creative installed. it just randomly started last night. its really frustrating, cuz everytime i fix an issue with this laptop, it does something else.

I can confirm 'cough' this has not caused a crash previously...

I faced the freezing issue when I first got my laptop however I am running Creative. I found that my display driver had a knightmare with it as well. Best to keep creative but get it working. Im using Realtek 2.54 with then original creative drivers, 11.3 Display drivers. All installed with Drive Sweeper and not one crash in 2 months.

What display driver version are you using?

What Flash Player version are you using?

Have you tried disabling hardware acceleration for the video player(s) in question?

The only crashes I ever had on my G73JH were playing videos (particularly YouTube). Disabling hardware acceleration fixed it. It was a known issue with Windows and Adobe (and was around for quite a while if I remember right). It has since been fixed (I use hardware acceleration everywhere now) but I can't remember which company fixed it. I agree with the above post - use the latest Realtek sound driver with the original Creative package. I use the latest AMD driver always as well. Also Windows 7 is always up-to-date

Sounds like a driver issue. As others have said.

I did a system restore to the day before freezing started, and re-installed realtek 2.59 and so far no freezing, left it playing blip.tv for 3 hours.

    flash player is 10.2 r159

    using the following other drivers:

    video CCC 11.3
    realtek 2.59
    creative is not installed

the freezing just randomly started last night. i ran driver sweeper on creative but it picked up nothing so i dont know what caused it. i was using realtek 2.54 at the time

    1) It's not a Creative issue. You can stop blaming that.

    2) It's a Flash issue. Keep it updated.

    3) Glad to see you updated Realtek.

can i install the creative driver from the asus driver downloads page with realtek 2.59 without issue?

Yeah, but running a rc can cause problems too. Even stable flash releases still choke on malformed data...

It was an issue with flash and hardware acceleration from what I gleaned.

did you checkk the windows update history? recently my g73 freeze everytime im idle for about 3-5 mins. i checked my recent updates and there is an update for windows silverlight. i rollback this update and everything went fine, no more freezing. i suspect that the update conflicts with the creative software i have.

    hope this could help you.

    10.2.159.1 is the latest version.
The easiest way to update flash is to go here
rich Internet applications | Adobe Flash Player
then choose download flash player from there.

There is a 10.3 beta on the site also
Flash Player Developer Center | Adobe Developer Connection
But I do not think this is required to solve the issue.
LBJADE thanks a lot for the tip, I will avoid that update.

Are you referring to "Update for Microsoft Silverlight (KB2526954)"?

If so, I've installed it, and I've been on a gaming binge over the past week, playing well over 20 hours in a day, and I don't have see any issues.

On my downtime (also known as sleep) I left my G73 encoding some x264 videos whilst downloading (Jdownloader, uses CPU like a hog, but it calms down when I clear the download list), and it never had any issues. No freezing, no lock-ups, no stutters when I wake to it and check my email.

Additionally, I switched to Chrome to test out the theory of BSODs and GSODs what with the new GPU accelerated features, and nada. Stable as ever.

And hosing down the G73 with aircans after every 3 days or so, I can't get my computer above 80C. Admittedly its not a 1 hour Furmark stress test, but I maintain the stand of Furmark runs being as useful as a sack of wet cat gonads. Games played: Killing Floor, BFBC2, MW2, JC2, Portal 2, BFP4F, Crysis 2, Crysis, and Assassins Creed 2. A few FIFA 11 coop matches in between.

    I'm pretty sure I'm one of a select few G73 owners able to re-sell a perfect G73.

Bottomline, your freeze is most likely software related. And since you've pinpointed flash accelerated video playing, clean uninstall flash, and re-install the latest version.

if its the recent silverlight update then thats it. i'm using the x-fi MB creative software(discussed in other thread). im sure it conflicts to that at least on my system.
