    Hi everyone,

I have a dead G1S which I really loved and I wonder if some parts from it can be used in other asus models.. for example the screen that is one of the unique things of this laptop, maybe the wifi card, camera etc..

I've been looking for the N53sv, but maybe I should buy a cheaper model and then change the screen..

    Is that possible?
    Thanks

The screen in that laptop is CCFL backlit, newer ones are LED backlit and probably have a different aspect ratio. The camera usually uses a small connector on the motherboard, and mounting it would be difficult even if you were to construct a cable by hand with the right connector. As for the wifi card, I think the G1S used an intel 3945 which could technically be compatible if the new computer's PCIe slot is full height, but it is probably not worth it since you can get a top-end wifi card for under $40.

Long story short: laptops are not like desktops, and being able to exchange or upgrade components is the exception rather than the rule.
