i am new to the forums but have really enjoyed the info here. I was having problems with my g60jx (best buy i5 model) BSOD after i installed the nvidia 258.xx series of drivers and the creative drivers off the asus support website.

I uninstall-ed both the nvidia and creative drivers trying to discover the root cause of the problem as i figured it was a driver conflict. I them proceeded to run driversweeper to remove the leftovers and in a careless fashion i deleted the nvidia chipset not realizing I had it checked.

I was reading afterward that your not really supposed to delete that. I have reinstalled 258 drivers w/o the creative drivers and i havent had another bsod yet after 3 full days of constant running and various programs.

All that text for the question how important was the nvidia chipset that i deleted? I havent run across any problems as of yet from games or sound but want to avoid any potential problems that could arise from deleting.

The second question where would i find the nvidia chipset driver that i deleted? Thanks for any help you can provide

you should use selfmode and run driversweeper in selfmode.

a better question would be what if any nvidia chipset other than the gpu would be in the g60jx. I see that the chipset is intel Hm55 but im trying to figure out what i deleted. THe problem is i deleted driver sweeper from the computer after i finished using it deleting the backup or else i would have just restored it.

i there isn't anything in the device manager with a ! by it you should be ok. it was probably a generic option in driver sweeper.

Even if you did delete the nvidia chipset on a normal PC when the PC rebooted windows would have installed a generic driver.

in the end you need to be careful with driver sweeper (its almost snakeoil), i've seen it often to much more damage then good. the uninstalls for nvidia and creative would be sufficient to remove any drivers.

thanks for the reply. I have learned my lesson with this one. I cant find any problems and the BSOD is apparently gone. (im thinking it was the creative driver conflict)
