i thought asus laptops the ''G'' series , have a new and excellent cooling system.
so i downloaded hw monitor and i checked my gameplay , playing black ops for 6 hours MULTIPLAYER, the cpu tempratures 78c~80c !!!!!!!! ?!?!?!!?!?
and the gpu temptratueis 88c , i mean what ? ?!?!? seriously? ? ?!?!
i know i know i run it on a flat surface , and not to block the vents but the tempratures even higher than other laptops !!!!!!
i thought they really improved the cooling system , with 2 FANS and blowing the hot air OUTSIDE FROM THE BACK !
but guess what no it doesnt , it is even worse , at least in my laptop .
THIS IS THE SECONDS EXACT laptop , i bought the same one before with the same problem , but i returned it for replacement , cuz it had a dead pixel.
so it is not MY LAPTOP ONLY...
please anyhelp ?!
-
calm down <.<
try to repaste your g- and cpu. we g73 owners use ic7 thermal paste. this will increase your temps, and than we can see how bad the coolingsolution really is
and make sure that you got the latest bios. -
tbfh, 88c GPU temp after 6 hours of gameplay on a laptop seems OK to me.
-
what what what ? you said use ic7 thermal paste and that WILL INCRESS MY TEMPRATURES? THEN WHY THE HELL WOULD I USE IC7 IF IT WILL INCRESS MY TEMPRATURES ?
@MANU72 , you have the same laptop as mine , except your screen is 1366x786 and mine is 1080x1920 , but can you tell me your tempratures ?
use HW monitor , please ?!
I HAVE THE LATEST BIOS. -
increase = improfe = lower temps = better
-
Just for the record, no matter how you slice it; "Increase your temps" = a bad thing. Decrease your temps is certainly what you meant.
-
i didnt meant the temps i meant the whole situation
-
I still consider that 88 degrees celsius GPU temp after 6 hours of 3d gaming is OK and doesn't warrant ANY worries.
-
The slightly smaller, slightly more crampt G53 series is known to have slightly* higher/average temps then its G73 cousin. That being said my GPU almost always goes into the 80s now that the weather is becoming warmer down here in SoCal
Your temps are fine, imho. Most other laptops would start overheating with the same or even lesser hardware, resulting in downclocking of the CPU (in the sense of the maximum allowed Turbo Boost), and downclocking of the GPU's core/shader/memory. Relatively, the G53 is quite good
EDIT: Hmm I will say however your CPU temps seem to be a bit on the high end (still well within thermal limits of 100C), but mine for example has never gone into the 70's, not even when OCed and stress testing or gaming. I know what I said above holds true and is valid but I didnt think the CPU temps of the G53 would differ from the G73 by that much...Did you buy it used or sent back a referb as your "second" laptop? (as in could they have messed with it? I noticed you said new cooling system not new laptop) Or have you tried tinkering with it? Maybe a few blasts of air into the vents would help? Whats the ambient when your getting these temps? Sorry for all the questions its 430AM over here and Im not tired
lol
-
You just confirm to me that the G53jw run hottt.Mine runs @ 89c the gpu during stress.I thought that something was wrong bc before I own the G73jh and the max temps were 78c, so I decided to exchange and the new one has the same temps.Wonder if a repast would to anything. Both of them were brand new.
-
G53 was perfect for me and I felt 0 heat all throughout my ownership.
By the way. TALKING IN CAPS GETS YOU NOWHERE AND IT'S RUDE.
A pasting job will generally lower the temps by -10c and a BIOS update does help. -
I think the OP should be happy his temps are good to begin with. To my knowledge all gaming laptops have high temps like this, some are better than others, but the 80s seem to be the norm. -
has anyone repasted the G53JW? im looking to do this but cant find any clear instructions online. i found the youtube video on how to open up the laptop but its from a side view. does the G73 repaste thread/instructions the same for the G53?

@Spunky424 No the G73 chassis is different, the G53 doesn't have a proper guide that I've seen, this is as good as I think you'll find for now: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...bling-g53jw-installing-second-hard-drive.html
-
As others have said 90c on a stressed GPU sounds fine to me on a 15.4".
-
Good to hear that is normal for the G53,I just wish it was like the G73 (78c max).Anyways a little tradeof for more portability.
-
Yup it runs hot.. I tried stresstesting it with furmark and reached 93C within 15min..
Think it's a bit too hot.. MSI Gx660 are cooler .. Max temp GPU 78C after 30min furmark .. a bit more noise though =) -
I've got a link in my sig that talks about average temps in the JH. -
first of all , i wwant to thank you all for the replys , i didnt epect that.
This laptop is brand new from NEWEGG, i bought it for 1450$ + 40$ for 4extra gb.
anyways , i guess this cpu gets that hot because i am playing that crappy , and sucky and horribly optimized game BLACK OPS for 6 hours ??
cuz the cpu usage is on 100% 24\7 , and oh btw , after playing 20 min in black ops , the game start slowing down ... but not that MUCH , and that happens only when i play black ops ?
so i dont know that happens cuz of the game or because my cpu or gpu overheats ?
anyways , when i play other games the max gpu temprature is 80c and the cpu like 73c or so ...
i just want to know other g53jw tempratures ...so i will make sure there is nothing wrong with my laptop -
You're a little high from what many people have reported, but not particularly higher.
You might get lower temps if you repaste, but that's well within proper temps .. if you try and RMA over "high" temps, you'll be wasting your time. Asus will probably let you send it in for diagnostics, and you'll be without your laptop for a month, and when you get it back, it won't have changed a thing.
I mean, if you *want* to send it in, go for it. But you're wasting your time. Repaste if you're handy with a screwdriver ... but if not, don't worry about it. -
by saying repaste , you mean open the laptop and the cpu and the gpu and then apply thermal paste again ? , cuz i have another laptop that i gave to a computer store to do that for me and guess what , it start overheat in like 5 seconds , what ? yes 5 seconds and then it shutdown , i guess that guy in cmoputer store was an idiot i dont know ?!?!?
my point is i dont want to do something that will screw my laptop even more
i guess it is just that crappy game , black ooooops .... -
yea when i play wow my cpu temps hit around 80-85c my gpu hits around 78, when i play sc2 the laptop actually runs a bit cooler even though its a bit more demanding, i think the game is just coded better than wow and it results in better temps not wasting resources like wow
-
oh btw , i forgot the most important thing !!!
my cpu , when i check CPU-Z the bus speed is 140 !!!!! but it suppose to be 133 ?!?!?
and my cpu hit 3.2ghz sometimes !!! , i guess that turbogear have something to do with it ?!
because my brother have G73jh from bestbuy , and his cpu bus is 133 and we have the same cpu !
plus my video card is OVERCLOKED815/1500/1630
D:
but if i dont overclock it the tempratures will be the same so .....
but i guess there is some overclocking problem with my cpu ! -
currently running furmark for 30 mins w/ stock gpu clocks to see max temps ill post results when im done
-
thanks man , you are the best !
but if you dont mind , can you download CPU-Z and take a picture for it ? i want to see your CPU-z on highperformance settings in Power4Gear .
i would post a picture for me now , but i cant i am in college now running my laptop on a battery, cuz me and you have exactly the same laptop but mine is G53jw-XN1 , it comes with 4 gb of ram , but i upgraded it to 8gb
one more thing , do you play black ops ? if you play it can you tellme if it lagg or not ? cuz it lagg like hell on my laptop , unless i turn off shadows and shader warming !
EDIT : i was searching in google pictures for CORE i7 740qm with cpuz , and i found alot i checked 5 of them , AND ALL OF THEM HAVE A BUS SPEED OF 133. ALL OF THEM , UBT WHY MINE IS 140 ~141 ?!?!? , i guess thats causing my cpu to get really really hot , am i right ?! -
this is on drivers 266.58 also
i have not played black ops on this laptop, i have on my gfs far less superior sony though, but thats of no help to you lol
i dont think a minimal bump in the bus is going to make that big of a difference in temps with what were already running at and i hope these screenshots help
as far as shadows go, that is the number 1 silent performance killer on gpu's -
Man, I really dont know what to say , you helped me so much and I want to thank you for what you have done !!
I saw your CPUz picture and it is the same as mine and the temperatures you are having are almOst the same too.
And the drivers the same too xD, btw how did you make that CPUz look so cool ?!
And once again I want tO thank you !! -
the rog cpu-z is offered to dl on the site here CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting
i dont think the temps are your problem, and like i said shadows kill performance in games and i no longer have black ops or id install it and play it to see how it runs so i cant help you with that -
Yeh , it is okay dont worry about it , you helped me alot, thanks !
-
hope you can resolve your issues, its a great laptop
-
indeed it is ,but on last thing , after i opend the keyboard to upgrade the memory), and then closed it again , the keyboard seems like it is not correctly placed , i dont know how to explain it , it looks like a little bit higher than it was before , i tryed to return it to the way it was , but no go ...
it is working perfectly but it is just a little bit annoying for me (knowing that there is something miss playced) XDD , did you have the same issue ?
did you remove any thing after you opend the keyboard ? cuz there is a STIKER on the left side under the keyboard maybe thats the cause ? or i dont know.. .
-
have you removed it again to see if it went back like it was before the second time? i didn't have this problem so try asking around or watching a tear down video to see if something is out of place when you go to place it back
-
i opend it and closed it 3 times , and the same , i mean it sit correctly , but it is like 0.2 cm higher
and the middle bottons lights are a litle bit lower than others , sorry for my english it is not the best , but i did my best
-
lol your English seems fine, i guess keep trying until it sits like you want, trial and error till you get the results you want
-
man , i you shocked me !!, a bout how fast you respond , i mean you spend most of your time trying to help me i didnt expect that in this forum , but this forum is greate ! THANKS TO YOU ! , YOU SHOULD BE AN ADMIN

on another note that im not sure if i covered earlier performance can vary from game to game due to coding, compatibility w/ drivers(some games perform better on older drivers sometimes) some games perform better on ati some perform better on nvidia. I did cover that shadows can decrease game performance considerably so can resolutions, lower resolution = higher fps but since our native resolution is 1920x1080 we naturally suffer a performance loss when we run our games in it
lol, we all share a common goal here in my opinion, we love our machines and want other users to experience them the way we do. As for me being an Admin that takes alot more work than what ive contributed here today.
i can fully underclock my cpu/gpu and still play wow on ultra w/ 40 fps in arenas since all i do is pvp(yea the loading screen takes a bit longer and you only have 5-20 fps in town) and it reduces temps by 30-35c also tried it on sc2 its playable on medium settings but dips can be a bit harder down into 10 fps so i wouldnt recommend it for other games but playing with the settings to reduce temps is always fun when you can still get smooth performance and shave off some temps -
Ugh pardon me if I missed it but check if you have TURBO enabled in the bios, if so then thats why your bus speed is always higher.
-
-
Well if thats the case, it enables ASUS Twin Turbo mode at start up, which has been shown to actually reduce system performance in most scenarios.
Thats all Im sayin -
-
Apparently the G53 BIOS doesn't have a toggle for it. Use the 2nd button to toggle, or open up Power4Gear Hybrid
-
-
yeh , i dont have turbo option in my bios , but i downloaded power forgear for j73jw and when i choose turbo it incresses the speed of my core i7 only without the bus speed , plus if i am not mistaken , i think the game runs better now ?!?!?!
i know i know it looks wierd but it is true , i mean i dont know i really dont know what to do now maybe i just feel it runs beter but it is the same ?
anyways i returned power 4 gear to the one that came with it already , cuz i hate using other laptops programsi just love using things the way it supposed to be used
-
Well thats odd, idk why you guys are getting nearly 3.2ghz with your 740's then
-
hmm , the wierdest thing just happend to me , i opend cpuz and started youtube , and the cpu speed went to 3.2ghz for 1 sec thn it went down (well i understand that cuz it doesnt require that much of processing) ok now i restarted the laptop and the max speed was 2.93ghz ..... and again restarted the laptop and it was 3.2ghz , it was like what the heck ?!?!?
sometimes it work as 3.2 and sometimes it work as 2.93 .... -
^^
Your 740 must think its an 840 -
ahahahaah , wierd isnt it ? XDDDD
-
yea ive seen up to 3.3 but i usually sit at 3.1
-
Have you tried optimizing your black ops ?
GeForce.com - Get the Most Out of Your GPU
I could post my Cpuid results next time i play black ops, but must compare the settings as well ..
My G53 GPU goes up to 93 deg C max on this particular game only (caeser IV) when its on max setting. but other wise, 80-85 seems to be the norm. -
see attached..
