I purchased this a G71GX on Jan 8 2011. this was shipped and received very fast.that is the good news. once receiving this product i plugged the unit in letting it charge the unit did not recognize the ac adapter and would not take a charge. after unplugging the ac adapter from the unit i quickly found out why. THE AC ADAPTER PIN TO PLUG INTO THE COMP WAS BROKEN AND LOGGED INSIDE THE COMP! contacted the manufacturer and was told i would have to ship the complete unit back. instead i purchased a new ac adapter for this unit so now im at 699 for the unit and 120 for the ac adapter total so far 830. after 3 days the unit crashed and i needed to do a reinstall of windows. when i tried to do the reinstall the manufacturer driver disk that came with the unit WAS NOT FOR THIS UNIT!!! I contacted them about this and was told that I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR SHIPPING, AND THEY WILL NOT SEND ME A NEW DRIVER DISC! Asus will not exchange this unit, they will not replace the faulty ac adapter, they will not send a driver disk that was suppose to be with this unit, and they want to charge me to ship the unit back so they can repair a unit that was faulty when they shipped it out. I have the quality check list showing that all these issues were checked and found to be in working order.

Asus doesn't generally send out driver discs, and yeah, charges for them. You can get the drivers online for free, though.

And yes, unless you've got an asus 360 warranty, you've got to pay to ship it one way. And if you noticed a hardware problem on brand new hardware, it isn't the manufacturer that fixes it - it's the reseller who sold you broken goods.

what about the driver disk that is to be inserted when doing the recovery?
when doing the recovery is states this is not the correct unit and kicks the disc out so i am unable to finish the recovery

Sounds like your RETAILER sold you a bad unit, not asus.

So what if they won't help you - you *should* have got all those things from your reseller. If they didn't provide it to you, it isn't asus' responsibility to fix the scam the reseller is pulling.

You could get a windows disc from here (windows disc links only) and the proper drivers from the asus website.

Otherwise, you should be mad at your reseller.

Here you go, get your drivers from this page, drivers are usually updated so the disk ones would be old anyway.
What reseller you got this from ? And I'm guessing the unit is refurbbished, since g71 is an older laptop now.
