This is my first post on notebook review, though I've been scanning the forums non-stop to try and find a fix to my problem
I have a G73JH
6gb ddr3
Mobilty 5870
i7-720qm
I am running the 209 bios
My system is only a week or so old, and I have experienced a few problems with it right out of the box; mostly freezing on games and in 2d mode at times. I have downgraded my graphics card drivers to the stock ones and the system seems stable enough. It doesn't lock up when playing games (for the time being at least)
The main problem is this: when my laptop has been left switched off or in sleep mode for 5-10 mins or more, windows will not startup properly. The system starts up, i type in my password to windows, then the screen goes grey and then black. Sometimes when coming out of sleep the desktop will show briefly and then freeze. To get around this I load safe-mode, restart the system and it works perfectly.
I do not want to upgrade my ati driver because the latest one seemed far more unstable.
Any suggestions welcome, although I have tried a lot of the basics !

Return it to Best Buy and get a new one.

Upgrade your video BIOS. See my sig link below for the file, and scroll up for instructions. Lockups and freezes with 3D and 2D was a popular symptom, especially if reverting to stock video drivers fix it. You'll need a bootable USB flash drive to do the upgrade formatted for FAT/FAT32. Utilities included.

It seems as though it was windows aero causing some sort of conflict. I disabled it and the problems I was having seem to have stopped. Not sure if this will be permanent so I will update further.
ps. thanks for the reply -
I'd strongly recommend vBIOS upgrade as well. If reverting to old drivers works, then you are a suitable candidate for updates. The most recent vBIOS will let you actually use new drivers, which may be required for newer games to run well (or even at all).

but is what i described a known problem? the company i bought the laptop from (btotech) have informed me that they flashed the vbios, though i expect not to the version you are talking about?
basically what I am asking, is whether the vbios chastity and everyone else recommends will solve issues that the official asus vbios update (which im presuming they used) could not. -
Click my GSOD link below. You'll see the version number for the working fix. You can then use HWINFO32 or GPU-Z, or BIOS, to check your vBIOS version.
