as the title says.
i have a g53jw notebook with corei7 740qm and an intel hm55 chipset.
my question is can i upgrade it to a sandy bridge cpus ? because it is much much much cheaper and better![]()
-
No.
720qm, 740qm, 820qm, 840qm, 920xm, 940xm.
Or lower to the I5 models. HM55/PM55 cannot use sandy bridge.
The XM models are the way to go but you need to know what your doing or you will melt a hole in the world. Have a look for a cheap 840QM if you want to upgrade your CPU otherwise stick with your 740QM it wont make a lot of difference unless you plan to get an XM. -
but i heared some people saying that i canot use the 940xm only the 920xm, is that correct ? because i found 940xm on ebay with $399.
also is ebay safe ? i have never bought fomr it before...
i also found the i7 920xm processor and it is NEW for $329 and it ship for free ! http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Intel-Core-...333-/250853828222?pt=CPUs&hash=item3a680da67e
and this is the USED i7 940xm for $399 http://cgi.ebay.com/Intel-Core-i7-9...333-/250858620150?pt=CPUs&hash=item3a6856c4f6
my cpu currently runs at MAX temprature of 85c with prime on ..... will it be okay if i upgrade to the extreme processor ?
also what is QS and ES and Q3B8 with the name of the processor ? XD -
If you are not going to actually use the CPU performance to its maximum or if you just intend to game with it then you would be better off putting your money towards an SSD which will give you a noticeable increase in boot and loading times.
Its my next purchase on the list.
I dunno about the 940xm personally with the G53 but i dont see why it wouldnt work apart from the cooling issue even so the 920xm is a better deal because once the multi's are unlocked you can clock it as high as the 940xm anyway and for a lot lower price.
Do some research before purchasing an XM and messing with the core speeds see the thread in my signature.
I did lots and was still an amateur and it can be quite frightening when testing your maximums and seeing the cores bouncing off of 100oC at 3.6ghz -
well i already have an intel ssd 80gb
also i was reading and they say that my laptop should support 55w tdp but mine supports max 45w tdp so i dont think it will handle it
, the max i can go with is the 840qm ...
-
Well I dunno who told you that because it is compatible, it has been done and you only have to look on Ebay and other resale sites to see people selling with the 920xm loaded.
Maybe not recommended I would say because of the heat considering the G53 are known to run slightly hotter but even if the TDP was 45w I would still chuck it in haha!
But im pretty sure it is 55w tdp.
Even so you dont really need it and you wont hardly notice the differece between 740-840qm so stick with what you have. Otherwise the 920xm is the way to go. -
hmm on ebay on the seller page he says make sure your laptop is 55w tdp or else it will run very very hot !
so i checked my cpuz and my max tdp was 45w
btw i was really wondering if you know what is twinturbo and if i can benifit from it please explain it to me if you know -
http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/7982/rogg53jwxn1i7740qm.jpg my cpu is running at 3.1ghz form the day one i bought the laptop because i belive i am using it on HIGH PERFRORMANCE
so i dont need to do the twin turbo mode right ?
-
When you check on CPU-z it is showing the max tdp for that CPU mate
So yes 45w is the max TDP for the 740qm.
Your actual laptop motherboard and cooling can handle the 920/940xm which are 55w TDP.
You have higher clocks because your Twin Turbo is on which is why it is running at 10% more performance as you can see your FSB bus is running at 141.
Turn TT off and it will drop back to 1.73-2.93ghz. Honestly stick with the 740QM or you will blow yourself up with an XM model -
yeh but how do i turn it off ? XDDD
all i did i putting the laptop on high performance ....
if i change it to entertainment it will still the same 141 fsb .. -
Otherwise go into P4G and click the turbo button it should be red bottom left of the P4G screen. -
there is no such a thing it only changes from high performance and entertainment and quit office and power saveing , if i change it to entertainment it will be the same ....
see the picutre here i just uploaded ... Imageshack - p4gg53jw.jpg
i guess it will only be resolved by uninstalling the power4gear, do you think it is better to return the cpu to its stock speeds ?
because when i play black ops after playing for 15 min the game start slowing down, and my cpu tempratures of the cpu hit 85c
so this might be the problem ?
EDIT: now i deleted power 4 gear and the FSB still 141 XDDDDDDD is that okay or it should be 133 ? XDD
also my 3dmark vantage scorre is p9253 http://3dmark.com/3dmv/3363827;jses...mv/3363827?key=QbAwWZU0Jz2uNWAYBEnuSz82wCbjJq why is that ? is it bad ? and why your 3dmark vantage is 1000+ ? we have almost the same specifications ?((
-
I have the 920XM and ran it very high when running my benchmarks the only benchmark that should be 11k+ is Vantage but it is 30oC here at the moment so I have no chance of getting my max score in this heat.
Compare my CPU/GPU scores against yours that is the difference, along with the fact the 5870M performs better than the 460M. -
is your 3dmark vantage score was with the i7 740qm or with the 920xm ? XD
can i upgrade my g53jw cpu form 740qm to a sandy bridge cpu ?
