Hi I'm about to buy a refurb unit. I work with virtual machines and was wondering if this laptop can be upgraded to 32gb? Has anyone put esxi 5 on it? Thanks

I have no idea if it'll do 32GB, i know for sure that 16GB will work, but i don't have windows 7 pro on my G73, nor do i have 4x8GB SODIMMs to test it either.

would you guys recommend either the 1920 or 1600x900 screen? thx

1600x900 would be great if your gaming , because you will get high fps .
but if your not a gamer its better to go with 1920x1080 . -
even for a gamer the 1920 x 1080 at high or mid high mixed settings you will have a lot of fun and i upgraded to 1080p lg Philips and its not the best on the market but the difference is really great in all terms and you will lose just 3-5 fps in most games just lower the settings and you wont need AA filter on that resolution.

I'm also curious about the possibility of having 4*8GB in my G73JH. Currently I have 4*4GB and I use it to run virtual machines. I'd be glad to have 32GB - then I'd dedicate 16GB as a RAM disk for extreme fast unzipping of very large archives.
My experience with 16GB is very positive except a side effect of long hibernation time and the same long time for wake up. It doesn't matter I have the SSD 120GB OCZ Vertex 2. I must admit its faster to switch off and then switch on my notebook when I close my work and go home than hibernate it and wake up. With the double RAM it has to be the double time to store the RAM content on drive and then load it back.
Summary f positives:
- Large RAM allows to disable the page file what is good in case of SSD.
- I also noticed copying the large files between disks (network, USB, whatever), the files are first cached in the free space of RAM -> in resmon.exe the Standby memory part eats the Free memory part. Copy progress looks like is running fast up to almost finished (like 99%), but the drive write of the copied files could be far slower - in reality it might be written just 60%. Then it gets 100% when really written on the target drive and Standby memory gets slowly released into Free. In reality the unused RAM is only the "Free" one in resmon.
- Running the virtual machines or even multiple instances of VM needs lot of RAM, the VM performance I experienced was sufficient with 2-3 instances (never needed more).

I myself run a ramdisk, and I put a little amount (16 Mo) of page file on the ramdisk.
So windows or nothing other will never ask for page file. -
yes it sure does. 4x 8gb ram i used vengeance. One ram slot is on back of mobo, not that hard to get apart and installed. other three slots easy to get at.
theres a youtube video showing how to get apart and get to back ram slot
so my g73j and g75 both running same vengeance 32gb ram =4 slots -
