So I've been enjoying my stock g60vx-rbbx09 ever since i bought it untill the other night when my cat knocked over a bowl of water dumping alot of water into the keyboard. The motherboard is toast. everything else should be ok. so while I have the laptop open I've decided not only to do the copper and drill mod.. but also to tweak the cooling as much as possible by opening up the dummy vents in the front of the laptop, open up the keyboard tray above the cpu fan and also by adding a fan where a pci-express socket and turbo boost card would go to cool the toasty 260m pics to come!

How are you going to power the extra fan?

the fan draws well under 500mA so the 5v usb rails will work

the fan is 40mmx52mmx10mm and is a blower type you'll need a 32mm diameter hole in the bottom case... not the cover

also note that this mod will most likely void your warranty....

to start off this mod you need to disassemble the laptop... then you have to remove the unused standoffs if your motherboard has them. I gave it a go with my toasted mobo since it had the stadoffs. a good pair of pliers and a slight twist will pop those puppies off without to much fuss...

I have a 12v fan running from my USB port, spins slow (as you would expect).
