The standard bench thread about it. The game released today and I wanted to know how it runs, since the demo was only in x32 ans the game can be in x64 if I'm correct.

the game runs great and will run better with the next drivers and patches. the g73 is the right thing to handle this game.

While I may have only played the demo for about an hour on whatever the higher graphics setting was (they were gamer, advanced and hardcore maybe?) I found it to be pretty sluggish.

This is probably because yes, I was using the higher settings. I did throw it down to "gamer" or something and even still, it wasn't butter.

I was pretty disappointed. Maybe, and hopefully it was a result of something else, but I sure won't buy this game and expect it to run beautifully on the G73JH.

The full version will have loads of settings to tweak the visuals I bet so you could probably make it run the way you want, but I don't feel too optimistic.

If you do, or maybe Quagmire could could do it, I'd love love love to see a gameplay video on the G73 to prove me wrong.

In the demo I get 30ish fps at gamer settings and I tried the leaked beta just to check if it runs well and I was getting 45ish fps at advanced I think but it was a beta so was wondering about the full game at release...

The best command you'll ever use in this game > i_mouse_accel=0

    Turns off mouse acceleration.

THe laptop is great, plays-full HD, antialising 2x on, medium setting (crytec callled them high, very high and extreme, so the very high ones, but really that is medium)
The game is nice and smooth except when aiming down 4x optical scope with an light MG. I guess they have a memory leak there or something.
AS for the game itself, it's a port of a console game, there is no ^$ bit exe, no direct X 10 or 10.1 or 11, and there is a bunch of bugs such as game rejecting your CD-key online for no reason and being unable to use punch attack after death and reload. SO whlist it p-lays fine, i cannot reccomend this game due to a number of issues, it does not live up anywhere near to the bar set by crysis 1. Not even the graphics.

I posted this on the steam forums, but I thought I would also post here so you guys could see.

Overall I am very pleased with how the G73 performs with Crysis 2 (although I'm running at 720p to get the fastest frame rate possible).

    Begin Post:

Just finished playing Crysis 2 for about three hours (multiplayer) and I have to say I am quite impressed. This game brought back an old school run and gun frag fest feeling that I haven't felt quite this way since the Unreal/Quake games.

Quite a different feeling from COD which is a nice change.

Anyway, the game runs great I think. Running it at Very High settings @ 720p is quite enjoyable if you can get around the lower resolution. Runs butter smooth and that's really what I want in fast paced run n gun situations. Usually I have a hard time settling for anything but the highest graphics settings, but sometimes you just gotta deal.

BTW, I am not using any config tweaks or anything, all stock "Very High" settings.

    Machine Specs (laptop):
    intel core i7 720
    8gb DDR3
    Ati Radeon 5870

    Wow, nice work Quag!!

When you're actually gaming and not demoing, do you play at that resolution and that detail level? (1080/high)?

I'm running at 1280 * 720/Very High and it's ultra smooth and extremely responsive. I found that 1080/Very High was too sluggish for me, especially in Multiplayer.

    Thanks!

I play mine on gamer (High), 1080p and it runs very smooth (between 28fps and 50fps).
Honestly, I really don't see much difference between gamer and advanced..

I am so happy with my g73-jw 3de. After hearing that gtx 460m not that powerfull I had serious doubts for crysis 2 in full hd. But man isnt the game runs awesome in full hd. I used advanced config tool to turn off motion blur and AA filtering(dont think i need it at that resolution) and last not least shadows as low(which dont think matter much other than hitting fps negatively); the game runs so smooth.

Thank you dolsson. I always make my vids with the settings I choose to game at. Sure, the only thing we can do with the stock game settings from there is drop the res :) Have you tried adjusting your config file to keep the 1080?
It's a fun character to play imo.

I'm running the game at maxed out settings with 2x Quincux AA at 900p. Runs very nicely, I don't like the ridiculous blur they put in the game so I turned all that garbage off. I don't know what SSAO does to be honest lol but whether it's on or off, I don't really notice any difference.

Anybody getting a black screen (except for hud icons and text) when an explosion happens? Or is that just how its supposed to be effect wise?

Also, for the G73s 1600x900, All High, No AA is the best config for buttery gameplay. Smooth 60fps all the way.

I had no option but to Force sleep or turn off with the power button. Just check your temperature in-case, mines are fine but i dont know wat is the reason behind this screen turning black :S and it just happens in this game only..

Nah, it was just momentary, as everything comes back as soon as the stunned effect wears off. I'm gonna turn blur on and see if it changes anything.

I had the same problem. For me it seems that I have to leave motion blur on. At least "1.Camera Motion Blur" seems to do the job, then there is no totally black screens on blasts.

Also on GPU overheating thread I mentioned that I successfully overclocked Crysis2 with setfbs. I noticed that actually this seems to increase frame rates, but it causes audio stuttering on cut-scenes, and in play scripted conversations go too fast. I.e. next line in conversation starts before previous finished :)
