update to the latest driver for your GTX 260M.
first uninstall ur current one, then use driver sweeper (I personally just do a registry clean), then install latest drivers from nvidias site. -
When I go to the site it says I have the latest installed?
-
it will respond if you use it regulary and don't mess with the overlock or sth
or else you have a hardware problem -
so I upgraded and now its happening every 10 secs when I play, its really frustrating and I'm about to rip my laptop in half. I'm really not sure whats going on. so far I've re-insatalled the driver and I have a laptop cooler to cool it..

You should try installing the driver again, maybe another driver... for example the OEM driver. Uninstall, go to safe mode, run CCleaner and driversweeper to be sure everything is clean and then install the driver.
This issue can actually have a lot of different causes. It may be driver related, some report that it happens due to heat issues and sometimes it may be a sign of a failing GPU (especially the vRam).
What are your temps btw? -
it goes up to 90 when playing a game
-
90 is fine. That's about par for a g51.

here is my advice which is probably going to sound like what svl7 said.
1 - uninstall all of your nvidia graphics drivers in ctrl panel. restart.
download and run CCcleaner. Download and run Driver sweaper. Driver sweaper can be downloaded in my bottom signature.
2 - restart again and run both CCcleaner and driver sweaper again. If it detected anything, fix them then restart again. (if you want, you can do it a third time in safe mode by tapping f8 when you start ur computer up till it comes up). Locate any nvidia folders in your c drive and delete them.
3 - download the latest gtx 260m drivers NVIDIA DRIVERS 266.58 WHQL. this is for your windows vista 64 bit gtx 260m card (notebook version). it should work
display driver has stopped responding fix?
