well.. 4 days into this beast and i get some weird screen of death... i cant figure out what kind..funny thing is that i was only surfing the web.. earlier today i was playing assasins creed for 3 hours straight on highest possible settings and it was working amazing... no problem what so ever..
right after that i started running it on battery for a while(while surfing).. with about 30% battery left, i decided to plug it in..
so i left the laptop on the table.. went to go get the charger.. came back, and the screen was turned off ( it does that when its been idle for 20 secs or something), so i ignore that and plug it in for power.. soon as i come back to light up the screen again (by touching the touch pad.. and BAM)
i see some crazy messed yellow squared screen with letters / numbers scattered all over the place (probably my web page broken up into peices)

i could still ALT-TAB between programs and the screen would change..

then i decided to put the screen all the way down, bcuz i though that might fix it.. so i closed the screen.. waited 15 secs.. opened it back up.. but this time it was all black and wouldn't turn on..i tried moving the mouse.. pressing keys, but screen wouldnt turn on..

thats when i had to do a manual shutdown (by holding the power button)...and after that it was all fine..

sad part about all of this is i was only surfing the web.

however , i think i wont ever see that again.. maybe it was bcuz of me switching from battery power to outlet..

    well..there u have it.. :(

since i've only had this for 4 days... should I be worried?

    welcome to the club...

    Yes, you should...

I still am not able to understand why people insist on buying a model that has tons of known issues? I think there are lots of masochists around...

No, dont be worried until you see a pattern. Computers of all shapes and sizes have there issues now and then.

For all you know it was something crazy like windows auto update that messed it up (seen this happen before) and I have crashed my computer by going from power to battery before. While it is not supposed to happen normally I was doing a task in high performance mode that maxed out the system and when I went to battery it caused a problem.

So come back in a month and let us know if you had further problem so we can track if it was a fluke or a real issue.

if you unplugged it, that means your gpu's clock speed decreased if everything is on default. If you have bios 206, then even if you plugged it back in, it would still be downclocked.

The gsod seems to be an issue with clock speeds. The main issue is the vbios. I have all kinds of links in my signature that will help you out.

Dont' worry, you have nothing to worry about.

Actually, I had a similar problem, When I got the G73, I didn't immediately, Update all the windows updates etc. I instead installed all my games, programs etc and started to play sc2. About halfway though the game the update manager came up, I updated it it restarted the computer and I was browsing ebay and then my computer froze=turned into a blue screen then crashed. When I tryed to power it on it only ran in safe mode, I would recommend Doing a recovery and uninstalling all of the crap that is not needed. Mine works flawlessly now with any game on ultra/high
