I've had heat break plastic before. I used to have this sirius xm radio in my car and left the charger in the power outlet. It was a hot day and it heated up probably well over 100 degrees in the car, and when I came back in I unplugged it and it broke apart like it was made of candy.

I just don't know what I'm supposed to do. I don't know it qualifies for an rma or if I just let it continue to degrade or what

I know G51 can get hot, but shurely Asus must have used plastic that can withstand it
How old is the laptop? Maybe it lose its heat resistance after some time. Or that you shouldnt touch the vent after an intensive session. Just let it cool of first.

I dont know. Just throwing some thoughts out there

I don't think it's the heat per-se. The heating of then semi-rapid cooling off of the plastic probably made it brittle. You can see an example of the brittleness in the small crack in the silver portion.

the laptop is only 13 months old so it's not old. i think the heat loosens the top part then the constant cooling / heating makes the bottom break, because the one directly to the right of the last one that broke off, is loose on the top but stiff on the bottom but i'm guessing its going to fall off soon
