as the topic states... my speakers stopped working for some reason. . . but I can still listen to audio files using ear-phones, but I can't hear anything through my speakers. Oddly enough the inital boot up sound I can hear ( I assume that uses the speakers). everything else on the computer works fine, as far as I can tell.

--oh and after doing a lot of searching.. i've come across this person's response to a similar problem of mine:

"Laptop thinks headphones are plugged in
This problem happens on a good amount of notebooks usually ones with realtek coponents. Generally this is a hardware failure somehow the switch for the audio jack is stuck in headphone mode and if wiggling your jack int working most people will say send your computer in for repair or call in that warranty. However that's not always an option let alone ideal.

I had the same issue as you also with an asus notebook but its a higher generation of your system. I have a fix that you and others can use but it means you wont be using the audio jack anymore. However this is usually not an issue what with usb being an option or an express audio card if you really must use a jack. The biggest annoyance for this problem is not having your laptop speakers , while they may not be crystal clear or as loud as you want it's useful and you want it backright?

Well you can have your speakers back . I take no credit for this solution but do pass it on, keep in mind this will disable the headphone jack allowing the speakers to reactivate, you will need to restart.

assuming you are using Realtek HD Audio Driver, in regedit, go to:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

in there are a enumerated sequence of sub-keys in my case, from 0000 to 0007. "

Search for the one that has a subkey named "Settings". If in the correct sub-key settings then there should be a value named "ForceDisableJD" with a value set (probably) to "00", double click it and change to "FF" ( it may be written as 0000 00 ) just change the 00.

At this point reboot. With any luck you should have your laptop speakers back (rem to have it selected as your default sound output device in sound manager)"
-- i dont wanna keep on doing this every time to get my speakers to work -.-

I've also already tried 'system restore' .. hoping it would work from a previous point (failed)

    I've checked sound drivers (failed)

    I've even reinstalled windows (failed)

im sorry for being a total newbie about this.. but can someone please help me out with this... i feel like im experiencing an unnecessary amount of stress for something that seems so simple

I have the same problem. There is a thread on this so you should use the search bar.

What I do to get my speakers working again is:
    -restart pc
-when Rog logo shows hit F2
-under advanced turn off/on post sound. Save and exit.
-When Rog logo shows hit F2 again
-again turn off/on post sound and save and exit
    -let windows boot

For some reason on My laptop by just turning the post sound on or off seems to turn on the speakers. This is a really archaic way but it works for me everytime.

@dune10191 >> I've tried searching for a similar thread via search bar, but all I could find was mine. I'm not sure what keywords to use. Where can I find this thread you speak of exactly?

I've also tried your method that got your speakers to work again (several times), but that didn't get my speakers to work on my g51jx.

If that's the case, then your headphone jack is defective. -- It happened to my G51VX-X3A and had to be RMA'ed for repair.

You can attempt to fix it by seeing if you can see if you can get the "sensor" dislodged in a "stuck-on" state in the headphone jack. If not, you need to RMA the notebook to have it fixed.

Let me be clear; this is a hardware failure. There are work-arounds (i.e. registry changes) but there is no software fix.

    Cheers,
    Kermee
