If you want something more portable, check the MSI GX660R, should be almost the same size as the old G51, which is more in line with a usual 15'', G51 n GX660 side by side, still isnt what i would call portable, but it would be smaller than a G53/G73.

The G53 isnt out so no real info out, but it suppose to be also a dual cooler setup similar to the G73, i would expect slightly higher temps than the G73 due to space, but it should be close, its piratically the same hardware on a smaller factor. Size you can check the vendors for specs.
    G73 16.6" x 12.8" x 0.8" - 2.3"
    G53 15" x 11.42" x 2.36"
    G72 16" x 11.6" x 1.8"
    G51 14.6" x 10.3" x 1.3"-1.6"
    GX660R 14.97 x 10.24” x 1.77''

Most of the issues, if not all have been resolved, specially with the new bios/vbios. But i think if you get the B1 should come with all issues resolved.

The G73JW seems to be doing decent, you can check the following for more info, Asus G73JW Owners' Lounge, the G53JW you will have to wait another 3 weeks to see some users feedback.

The 15.6 inch notebook size is more of a niche then anything. Either the 15 or 17 inch models are going to take up resonable amounts of space, ala coffe shops, plains, carrying them around. If you can spring for a 15 inch variant and not sacrafice anything then by all means go for it, but as far as buying which one for logical reasons, both make the most sence lol...
