Okay guys. First off, thanks for your opinions about the n53 vs the g53. I've decided now that it will be worth it to dish out a little extra cash and go for the g53 series so I can do some decent gaming.

Now... I've found 2 decent deals on Amazon.com so far...

    SX
Amazon.com: ASUS G53SX-A1 15.6-Inch Gaming Laptop - Republic of gamers (Black): Computers & Accessories

    SW
Amazon.com: ASUS G53SW-A1 Republic of Gamers 15.6-Inch Gaming Laptop: Computers & Accessories

They are both a decent price, and I'd imagine that for Black Friday or Cyber Monday they will hopefully be a little cheaper.

I know the major difference is supposed to be the graphics card. From what you guys have told me, and from what I've read in other forums this is the general consensus...

    gtx460m 1.5gig vram w/ 192-bit is better than gtx560m 2gig vram w/ 128-bit

Okay, but I've noticed that the models such as the g53sw-xa1 have had really bad reliability problems. And considering I don't live in the USA anymore, reliability would be a very important factor for me. My plan is to order one of these laptops from Amazon and have it sent to my parents house in Connecticut. Then I'll pick it up when I go home for Christmas.

I'd like to hear what you have to say about the reliability of the g53sw. According to reviews, the A1 seems to be more reliable than the XA1. Any ideas why that is?

Also, if I get one or the other, will it honestly make a really big difference or no? I'm looking to play BF3 and Skyrim with high settings mostly. I realize some of these questions might sound dumb to you guys. But I'm somewhat new to the laptop gaming world, so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again fellas. I look forward to reading your comments. Cheers!

    -Ian

The performance on g53sw better then SX for sure.

I have the A1, LOVE IT! a great laptop, and on high settings (FHD) I can play BF3 with no problems (27 FPS)

can you take a screeny/video of this? Im really curious to see how well the 53sw can handle BF3. I looked up videos but people set them to like ultra or some random settings and getting mixed results.

What settings did you use and screen resolution as well as overclock or stock speeds and your temps playing this

sorry for all the questions haha

to OP: from what other people are saying, the gtx 560m is better if youre playing in lower resolutions since the 128bit bandwidth isnt the limiting factor where as if your playing on high resolutions, the 460m would be better

with overclock (460m) you can make it as fast as the 560m with higher bandwidth

I thought Asus G53SX-A1 has 12GB DDR3 and GTX560 while Asus G53SW-A1 only have 8GB DDR3 and GTX 560. For me, i will buy Asus G53SW-XN1 or G53SX-XN1 to save money for upgrade SSD or up to 16GB DDR3. I can get Asus G53SW-XN1 for $800 after tax and $100 rebate on newegg.com

They should win the "nonsense choiche" award of the year.
The g53sw handled the more power hungry gtx460m without much trouble even with insane clocks.
The 560m full would run cooler and oc better than the gtx460m in the g53, no doubt.
Also the second worst choiche made is the fact that they used a built in gpu layout in the g74sx. Which means that you can't swap gpu in case you need to do it, youre forced to swap the whole mobo.
On the other side the g53sx has a swappable gpu but don't get your hopes up because Asus uses a custom gpu layout and vbios which is extremely different from the normal retailed card in Clevos or Alienwares.

Thanks for your help guys. I've decided to go for the G53SW. I'll probably be back with more questions once I actually get it lol. But thanks a lot for the feedback. Cheers!

Hmmmmm they maybe very good deals although considering I could make that website in an afternoon I would recommend anyone considering buying from there to show up in person and make sure the item exists :)

Could be legit but what looks too good to be true, normally is.

Yeah I think so too, but they were a featured merchant on Amazon...so I'm not too sure what to think at this point. What do you guys think?

The price is too good to be true. If they were a featured merchant on Amazon, i would buy laptops from them on amazon.com, not from their website, for protection.

Can anyone give some info on the difference between the g53sw-a1 and the g53sw-xa1? Amazon reviews of the xa1 seem to be worse than the a1. Is there any way some of these issues are unique to the xa1, or do the quality control problems span across the entire series?(only difference in specs I see is the HDD)

xa1- Amazon.com: ASUS G53SW-XA1 Republic of Gamers 15.6-Inch Gaming Laptop: Computers & Accessories

a1- Amazon.com: ASUS G53SW-A1 Republic of Gamers 15.6-Inch Gaming Laptop: Computers & Accessories

Just about every site that I checked seems to say that the A1 is more reliable than the XA1 (except newegg.com it seems like they got a bad shipment or something). But to be honest I couldn not tell you exactly why that is. Perhaps someone else has a better answer for you.

Thanks for the quick reply, I guess it might just be better to spend an extra $100 on the a1 for a little extra HDD space and possible piece of mind. It would be nice if I could avoid the horror stories I have read in some reviews.

Yea that was pretty much my train of thought too. I'll hopefully be ordering the A1 on black friday or cyber monday. Whichever has better offers.
