So, I just got my g72gx-rbxx09, and it's great.
but now I am running into a problem.
It connected to a wireless network just fine the first couple times, now it fails to even acknowledge there is a network available.

I had it on, and connected. Put it in hibernate mode, then when it came back outj, there was no connection. Now, no matter what I do, it won't recognize a network anywhere. When diagnosed, it says I need to turn the wireless card on. Restarting, switching the card on/off, and even adjusting the settings has done nothing. When the card is switched on and off, it just always shows the tower with black bars.
Any ideas what is wrong, and how I can ffix it?

    Thanks in advance!!

This sounds like the issue I have with my VAIO... On your computer as you probably already know there is a wireless switch. On my VAIO when I'm wireless and it decides to connect to the internet, if the switch goes untouched its perfectly fine. But once i so much as place my finger on the switch I'll lose all internet connection and it won't recognize any networks. The switch may be defective, I'd ask the retailer you bought it from about this. I don't know for sure if that's the issue seeing as me and you both have entirely different laptops, just saw the post and thought I'd throw my opinion in seeing as I have a similar issue. Hope this helps though!

My old computer used to do something similar. I was unable to get any internet access after I closed the lid.

When I reinstalled the driver it worked. Try that.

reinstalling drivers did work. I hope this isn't going to be a common problem though. Don't really want to reinstall drivers every time I close the lid!

I have the answer to your problem. It bit me in the arse as well. The switch on the side of the computer has never worked for me. There is a program that runs automatically on this ASUS called Wireless Console 3. You can see it in the sys tray on the right side of the task bar at the bottom of your screen. The icon is blue with a white symbol. Double click it. A large icon will pop up, but only for a few seconds. Just click the icon one time while its visible on your screen and your wireless connection will be reset and you should be good to go.

    Hope this helps.

The switch does the same thing to me. It will turn OFF the wireless card, but it won't turn it back ON again. I have to use FN + F2 to turn it back on.

This just started happening to me this morning also. The computer is about a month old +/-. I'm running Win 7 64bit (I assume all GX72's do) and FN + F2 does nothing. Using the switch on the side does nothing other than display the icon in the center of the screen. The icon (antenna with a black bar under it) appears on the screen but if it's supposed to look different depending on whether your turning it off or on it doesn't.

I don't see any blue icon with a white symbol to double-click. All I have in wireless mode is the "five bars" with a red "X" over it.

The troubleshooter tells me to turn on wireless capability....well duhh.....that's what I'm trying to do!

I have not uninstalled and reinstalled the driver.....YET.....
