I have no keyboard issues but I do have issues with my touch pad. Sometimes when I use it, it doesn't move the curser or the scroll icon comes up even though I'm touching the middle of the pad.
I'm sure this has been mentioned before. I decided to uninstall Synaptics and see how well the touch pad works without driver support. I noticed that sometimes I just touch the middle and move a bit, the curser doesn't move an inch sometimes (basically frozen).
I suspect that its hardware but If anyone isn't having issues like this, please tell me what version of synaptics you are using.
-
Hi, I'm having exactly the same issue. It's terrible annoying sometimes because I can not control at all the touchpad. Right now I'm using the synaptic touchpad driver 10.0.10.0 to use the two finger scroll feature (not available in the asus drivers). But also, I tested the 140100 and 150110 from asus.... same issues. For a while tried using without the two finger scroll but the issue still. I'm having the same weird cursor behavior and sometimes is like the cursor freeze. The only way to solve is star touching the opposite side of the touchpad to the side were became frozen. The other solution that works for me is open the Moodpad accessory (secondary click over the trackpad icon in the taskbar->accessories->Moodpad) and the issue is gone. That last solution make suspect is hardware and software issue (like vBios and catalyst).
People from this forum argue they use mouse. It's OK, but in my side, most of the time I only use the trackpad. I made the same description in the "Updates from Asus" thread and I look forward Gary ear us. -
I occasionally get a freeze up, but usually its when I'm at work and have flour on my fingers (pizza place). It might be just that you aren't using enough of your finger.
-
This was wrote by Gary from an old post in the "Update from asus" Thread:
Good night
(right now having this issue at home but Moodpad solved partially) -
-
I didn't suspect it was flour
Was just suggesting it could be related to pressure or incomplete contact, but clearly it isn't in your case
-
Nice job. Indeed moodpad fixes this. I have no issues controlling my pad anymore. Nice debugging there.
also, the bios updates doesn't solve any problems as far as the touch pad goes from what I've read and since I have bios 206, and you have 209, then its probably software related. What they need to do is input the moodpad to where its not required to open all the time.
Well, for now I'll use the pad. I went ahead and downloaded the latest synaptic (ver 14.0.3.0) and I really like the extra features it has especially the two touch scrolling. I also like the 3 touch application opener. Really cool.
originally, I was just checking out different versions but to no avail. not even uninstalling the drivers work and just using the normal ps/2 touch pad solved anything. So really, I'm thinking the root of the problem is the ps/2 touch pad drivers maybe or just the program itself? -
Simple, with the moodpad you can follow exactly where your finger/pressure is over the touchpad, and, if you resize the windows of your apps to allow to moodpad always visible, you will realize when the issue came, even if you press the center of the touchpad, the moodpad indicate your are pressing the side of the touchpad. (BTW, moodpad can not detect two finger pressure)
My guess is software related issue, because when you restart the laptop the problem is gone. -
-
According to Moodpad, I'm homicidal.
-
Actually, I can pretty much pin it down. In my case, the touchpad tends to stop responding when I'm holding my thumb on the left-click and i'm barely next to the pad. It will register that as a click and when i use my index to actually click it will register a multi-touch gesture. I've had web pages zoomed in like that lol.
So yeah. The sensitivity in that area should be corrected by the software. It really shouldn't initialize multi touch gestures when one finger is on the very edge of the pad. -
One cool thing I realized about the touchpad that I've never seen in a laptop before is that if you're dragging a window and come to the end of the touchpad, as long as you keep your finger there it will keep dragging slowly.
-
Worked for me too. Thanks Nekki. I'd like to give you some rep, but don't have any. LOL. You saved me from throwing this otherwise beauty laptop out the window.
Anyone else. Until Asus or Synaptics comes up with a solution. Just do as Nekki discribed above. Leave the mood pad running and drag it down to the corner so it's out of the way. -
-
Meanwile the moodpad seems to have solved it (3 days now and not a glitch from the touchpad). -
Holly crap! If i open moo pad the problem gets fixed! What is going with the touchpad???
-
Just got the problem today. So frustrating. Any official fix for this yet?

(i made this video)
one thing i founded it's, in my machine if i'm on linux and reboot ( only reboot) and boot to windows, after 15 minutes using windows normally it crashes (BSOD)..
one thing more, some time when i turn on my laptop when it reaches grub boot loader some times the keyboard doesn't work..
using 211 bios.. and im thinking that this bios is broken really bad.. -
I have noticed touch-pad issues as well (random jumping, inability to move past certain points, random zoom). I ended up disabling some functionality, so at least when it gets into one of it's "moods" I don't start randomly zooming in and out. I've also noticed that it only seems to occur after standby/hibernation (closing the lid). I've actually noticed a lot of issues (rare BSOD on youtube vids) occur mainly after hibernating and resuming. Thus, I just shut-down/restart rather than close the lid when I'm in between use, haven't really seen them since. With an SSD, shutdown is faster anyways.

reporting that i'm getting similar issues with my JW, using stock drivers.
1.) trackpad will register touch even when finger is outside of pad area, resulting in zooming/multitouch gestures
2.) trackpad sometimes unresponsive, it basically feels like the mouse speed has been reduced to 0, or completely stopped moving for a good few secs.
3.) tapping unresponsive sometimes, even when i'm set sensitivity to highest.
4.) I do see some high latencies under DPC. the high latency seems to happen randomly, even when i'm not using the trackpad. -
That sucks that you have TP problems. It's pretty much the same one as the JH so there is no reason to think it wouldn't show up on the JW eventually. This is actually good news for us since we are very likely to get a fix if it is showing up other places in my opinion. -
Well guys. I don't know where Xellon found V15.1.9.0 but it's been 24 hours now and not a single glitch from the touch pad. Anyone having the touchpad issue should try it. Thanks again Xellon.

Trust me when I say I have tried anything and everything. It still freaks out with Synaptics or without. -
My issue is becoming pretty brutal. I'm on 15.1.9.0.
1. Problem occurs randomly after a period of time of using the touchpad.
2. Problem usually starts with the cursor continuously scrolling no matter where on the touchpad the contact is made.
3. Sometimes the cursor turns into the 4 directional arrows, zooming in and out on a webpage continuously.
4. Within a few minutes, the touchpad will start not responding at all to certain movements.
5. Sometimes the cursor does this cute little thing where it will dance up and down the middle in a wavy fashion (no matter where you contact the touchpad).
I cannot begin to describe you the sort of rage this induces in you when you're trying to keep up with class notes. If Gary doesn't come up with that update soon, this may be goodbye to my G73. Really sad how a laptop capable of running the most demanding software in the world cannot perform basic functions such as word processing and mouse tracking.
Edit: I figured besides just complaining I should also mention that I'm open to any suggestions anyone has regarding this issue... but I've already searched, and I don't think there is a solution out there that actually helps. -
It's been mentioned that running the Moodpad application will keep the touchpad sane. YMMV
-

I have tried all the drivers available and the 15.1.9.0 are the best so far. I have disabled a lot of the functionality to try and make it usable. I turned off the zoom stuff and over all it is not working to bad. There are still issues but it seems to recover now. I have never used a laptop with a touchpad as flaky as this one.
I am not sure yet but one of the things that seems to trigger mine to go flaky is when I sweep my right hand back to it after typing. I think it is when I brush the right side of the pad when I am actually going for the center of the touchpad.
Turning on the Mood Pad had no affect for me.
My advice is to turn off as many features as you can so you can retain your sanity until a fix is issued. It is amazing how frustrating a misbehaving arrow on a screen can be. My laptop is lucky there was not a hammer near by. Like someone else already said though not as amazing as the fact that a high end laptop that can run any game made does not have a proper functioning touchpad. -
And yes. It amazes me too. That such a high end laptop can have problems with such a basic function as a touchpad. -

To be honest I am a very crappy typist so I miss a lot of key strokes myself. I do not think my machine misses key strokes, at least not at the speed I type at.
This keyboard does require more pressure than the one I was using before. I think I was missing some letters initially but it might have been my fault by not pressing hard enough. -
My keyboard lag is getting worse by the day.Woohoo! Also, "tap to click" seems to make the touchpad go bonkers again.
-
-
i think someone posted this before but i think this problem is worse or more likely to happen when i've got the computer on my lap rather than on a table or desk. i also still have it with every driver that i've tried.
-
Might be heat or the position (constant tilting maybe?)
Drives me nuts. -
There is a newer driver available now. version 15.1.16.2 Haven't tried it yet but I hope there is some sort of improvement. You can download it here on my video. Look in the bottom of the description.

I've had this problem from the time i first turned it on, in the beginning it was not as bad but you could tell something wasnt right, I recieved my G73 back in Feb. but never got around to RMA'ing it and then reading the horror stories about rma screw ups, anyway I always figured it was a hardware problem, like maybe it was misalligned or something so i was gonna take it apart today, but now that i see other people with this problem i guess i will hold off for now.
Im scared to rma it, because on the one hand this is the only prob i have and so if they switch out hardware anything could happen because as you all know there are a ton of random issue's that can plague the g73
also i should mention I have this prob in Ubuntu Linux as well -

Honestly, for all we know it is a motherboard and touchpad issue. Imagine the cost to Asus if they had to recall the units and replace both the motherboard and touchpad???
I really do believe, at this point and time, that a lawsuit is the only way to get them to take responsibility for this problem. PR probably is not going to do it. -
I have faith in Gary that he'll pull though with his argument with asus, but if it turns out that nothing is going to happen with the touchpad, This will be the last time I purchase asus products.
I thought the jw was going to be perfected.... damn was I wrong (at least from what I've been hearing). -
I would love it if someone started a class action suit, I wouldnt know where to begin though. Maybe we will get lucky and a lawyer bought a G73, that would be too funny!
-
Hello All,
I don't necessarily agree that a "class action" lawsuit is needed nor is it in order. However, I thought I would point out that with the company I work for - A Different Manufacturer of Notebook Computer - any time a legal matter is brought up by a customer the issue/matter is immediately given to the legal department. At which point any work that the support and/or other engineers are doing to help resolve the issue are immediately halted.
Making threats of a legal nature may have a negative affect on those of us who would much rather have the issue resolved and not thrown into a legal blackhole.
Just thought I'd provide my own input -
Gary - yours and your engineers work on this issue is highly appreciate -
In Peace and Agape,
Trav... -
I believe the point here is that the keyboard lag and trackpad issue are tied to a similar source, and that the issue exists in several other makes of the company's products, over the course of several years.
This would suggest that the company is playing the odds with the issue rather than investing in fixing it. -

I want my touchpad fixed
Recently I've been considering RMAing my G73JH for the touchpad but I too have become fearfull of a plaqued replacement.
Maybe they could hook me up with the G73JW's touchpad/buttons.
How likely is the chance of Asus repairing MY G73JH's touchpad without giving me some one elses old G73JH?
Gary can you please shed some light on this matter before I give in to the dreded Asus RMA/Russian Roulette.
Thank You in Advance. -
All work to deal with the problem is halted??? Really???
So in other words, according to your view and that of your company, any time people can't get something resolved, they should just roll over and take it because to do otherwise is going to KEEP them from getting resolution???
That is such BS I don't even know where to begin. MOST companies try to avert legal action where-ever possible. Ie, the threat of legal is the ONLY THING keeping MANY companies properly supporting what they sell. And that is evident as many a product, once out of warranty and worry of legal recourse is non-existent, has had support dropped to a non-existent level, leaving consumers in the wind to twist.
Key point here, is these products ARE in warranty. It is Asus's RESPONSIBILITY to support thier products. It is not optional. The G73 series is sold as having a functional keyboard and touchpad. That means functioning 100% of the time. This is not the case.
If companies think that they can just ignore thier customers, there is legal recourse to MAKE THEM deal with thier problems. It has been 8 months since these models have been introduced and many have come forward and complained about the issues. Gary Key, an authorized representative of Asus has confirmed they know of these issues. It is not at thier discretion to fix these problems. If we, the consumers, feel that we are not being satisfied it is fully our option to take this to a class action lawsuit. This, of course, is not the preferred and/or ideal situation, as it will ultimately delay anything happening, if it is in fact, being worked on.
This is not rocket science, this is something that is either hardware or software. If it is hardware they *may* be able to get it worked around via software. If not they have to recall the units to do the hardware fix. We all know NO COMPANY wants a recall. It costs far too much. But, frankly to drag thier feet as they have and delay and put things off is just showing they don't care to deal with the problem with all the resources they have available. If it is a software fix, then you are talking DAYS to fix it, not weeks, or in our case, months. If it does take them months to fix it, then again they haven't put the proper resources to dealing with the problem, or they have incompetent developers dealing with it. Again, something THEY can do something about. It is obvious at this point that supporting thier customers is bottom-line priority for them.
And, I may add, don't get me wrong, we LOVE the laptop when it works. When it doesn't it is BEYOND frustrating. All we want is the thing to be fixed properly.
