    Hello,

I'm the owner of a g73jh-tz091v notebook and plan to replace one of the 500 GB HD with a SSD.

I found those 2 interesting offers:

Amazon.com: Crucial Technology 128 GB Crucial RealSSD C300 Series Solid State Drive CTFDDAC128MAG-1G1: Electronics

    and

Amazon.com: Corsair 120 GB Force Series Ultra Fast TRIM Supported Solid State Drive CSSD-F120GB2-BRKT: Electronics

Those support read speeds up to 280 - 355 MB/s which is a lot higher than the 80-90 MB/s of my HD.

Will replacing on of the HD really make much of a difference?

I have read that the g73jh-tz091v has S-ATA 150 and therefore only supports read speeds up to 150 MB/s. Is that true?

And which one of those two SSDs would you recommend, or is there even a better one in that price range?

    So long!

The HM55 chipset will degrade SSD performance considerably, so I would buy whatever is cheapest at the time with the best quality track record.

I Currently own 3 OCZ Vertex (two 60gig and one 30gig) and just recieved my new 120gig Vertex 2, which I installed in my g73jh-a2. You will not notice a performance increase in games with an SSD, what you will notice a diffrence is load times in windows, games, and apps that you have installed on the ssd. I really like OCZ becuse they are really supporting their SSD's, there has been numerous firmware updates to fix small problems and add tweaks. Thats a big plus in my book.

    Check out this one:
Amazon.com: OCZ Technology 120 GB Vertex 2 Series SATA II 2.5-Inch Solid State Drive (SSD) OCZSSD2-2VTXE120G: Electronics

Alewillywonka, these laptops are not sata3 so either of those drives would be a waste IMO.

Why should the Vertex SSD be more appropriate than one of the other two?
    With S-ATA 150 isn't this a waste money?

I'm guessing Hrogi had a false positive on antivirus or something, maybe from an ad on storagereview or corsair's site. Move along... :p

Performance wise, you will not notice any diffrence in normal use. I have my two 60 gig vertex drives setup in raid 0 on my desktop, this new 120gig drive is starting windows and games every bit as fast as the raid setup. I just ran a benchmark with ATTO on my laptop, my highest read was 277883 and my highest write was 242928 so around 250mb/sec for each. Now my biggest reason for suggestion OCZ over Corsair or Crucial is I have had great experience with OCZ's customer service. They really support their SSD market and that is why I have bought 4 of their SSD's.

Does the Asus G73JH-TZ091V laptop support Sata 3GB/s so those SSD would make more sense?

    Yes, the G73JH has a SATA 2.0 (3 Gb/s) interface.

What makes more sense is up to you...

Maybe he got a false positive on whatever he's using as a "reported bad site" protector.

I have just bought a G73JH-X3; it has 2 x 320gb 7200rpm Seagate HDD. I am planning to put them in raid 0.
Do you think it makes sense to upgrade to SSD if the motherboard has only sata2? I mean price/performance.
Do you think ssd manufacturers will drop down the price in the next year? :D

The HM55 chipset in these laptops don't support hardware level raid. Even if it did, you'd notice better gains off a good SSD - personally I like vertex2's and x25-m's

ssd's been dropping a ton over the last 2 years. Still it won't be as fast as any of us will ever want

By gains, I mean everyday use and performance in running and launching applications. Speedy startups where you feel like sleep isn't worth it. No you won't get FPS gains in games
