Ive read many posts about temps and fan controls.

From what I gather there is a way to manually control the video cards fan?
However, I see no option for this within my catalyst control center. My cores idle at 50c, but the ATI HD 5870's idle is at 80c, and rises to 95c with minimal gaming, and the computer shuts down. Having read a previous post, I am going to get a can of air first and try that. Can I actually control the video cards fan speed?

You have bigger issues than the fan if you idle at 80c. Time to repaste like right now.

I had similar temps before repasting. My GPU idle was sitting around 78C, after repasting i sit around 53-55C. I strongly recommend repasting and cleaning. However, be cautious if your not experienced with notebook dissembling.

I concur. Though i highly suggest you use an aircan on the vents. I did this prior to actually repasting and my idle went from 68c back down to 54c. Saved me from having to crack open my laptop on top of actually cleaning out the vents. Good luck! :)

Well, I bought an air can. Ton of dust came spewing out on 3-4 sprays per vent. Sprayed until nothing came out any more. Been playing SC2 on Ultra for 2 hours. 5870 hanging around 60c, problem solved i guess
