So, I have my main board out. I want to test it, but it just cycles the cpu fan and goes back off. I know it works great when in the laptop casing. So, I wanted to know if anyone knew what it required to boot.

I have the board, with ram, cup, and gpu. What else does this thing need to fire outside its shell?

You may be shorting it while it is out.

I have no idea, but I know I've had this problem in the distant past and never posted about it.

I broke the display, but it still booted into winblows via HDMI. I figured I'd replace the display, but if I can't get this thing to boot to test it before buying a display. I suppose there's no longer a reason to buy a display for it :D

I do need a touch pad ribbon and a keyboard as well. I know I could go searching through the forums, but that generally never yields any useful hits for me. Ugh...

Has it been out of the case for some time? Maybe it has been damaged while out.

No this was a one day thing, I got it to boot today. I think, but I could only plug in an HDMI cable. However, it yielded no output... The fans spun up the blue light stayed solid. It was as if it was working, just no display.

So, now I need to replace all the ribbons... Some fun that should be tracking all those down :/ Apparently it wouldn't boot because the ribbon from the hard drive cradle was frayed. I must have been too rough with those little ribbons because they're all frayed now :/

Any ideas on obtaining ribbons for the G73JH?

Yeah they are always delicate, you have to be careful with them in any brand.

That's the first rule when taking apart any electronic device. Laptops normally have those flat cables with zif connectors everywhere. If the connector is still working and it's just the cable you might be able to shorten the cable just a tad to fix your cable ends. I've had to do with a lot of hp dv6000/9000's due to 2 cables being glued to the touch pad /top. Just take a pair of scissors and trim off the very end of the cable. It works probably 50% of the time but you have nothing to lose.

The touch pad cables are available on ebay, and a replacement hdd connector with the cable is available as well.

Here are some links to get you started

    Touchpad cable
    g 73 touchpad cable | eBay

    Hdd Connector with cable
    60 NY8HD1000 C01 Asus G73J Hard Drive Connector with Cable 69N0H3J10C01 01 Board | eBay

Either way it looks like a cheap repair, just be more careful from now on.

Yeah some shorts across that sort of cable can do damage too.

I think I'm going to take this laptop out and shoot it repeatedly, and after that I'll torch it. It's been a headache since the day I purchased it. Come to think of it, that's the way it's gone with most Asus products I've owned. I'm currently on my 4th mainboard from Asus since February, ugh.. RMA's.

Maybe it's time for a new laptop Meaker, hopefully from a vendor that has a reputation for being fullproof. Whatcha think Meaker?
