Most g73 is in US. Quality you can expect. All the website I know charge a hefty shipping cost to export. The shipping cost goes low as $150 and above. Sadly there's no way around it, not that I know of.

    Hiya,

I currently have an A1 on order with Gentech for delivery over here to the UK and have had several other items shipped over from the US in the past.

As I currently understand it, there are two charges that will apply when recieving the laptop over here, the brokerage fee (which is applied by the courier for handling the shipping paperwork etc) and the import duty (17.5% vat + item type tax ) as the item is over £18 pounds in value.

    A couple of notes:

You will have to check if the brokerage fees are included in the shipping costs by the courier (and they arent usually included in the *basic* or *standard* rate, look for something such as *expediatied* on the UPS courier as an example of it likely to be included)

Import duty is composed of two things, the vat and an additional tax based on the nature or type of imported item, at the moment the second tax should not apply to a laptop item so you are looking at 17.5% of the laptop+shipping ( I know, why should I pay vat on shipping, I cant answer that for ya other than agree that it seems stupid, but that is the way it is )

Im still happy going this route as with the additional 17.5% vat your still saving a couple of hundred pounds and the Asus warranty is worldwide so good for us over here.

I was burnt once by an order from Widow PC on a Sting Laptop (which my G73A1 is replacing) that has a faulty GPU and it took some very carefull negotiation to get it replaced by them.

    noproblemo matty. :)

I have had a pre-order from Gentech for the G73A1 from 24/2 and was told that my order would be in the next batch of A1's due to be received on the 26/4 .. which is today, but I have not heard from Ken at Gentech yet :(

Ken has been very good at responding to my pestering of him for updated delivery times and he has so far always replied quickly (sometimes I wonder when he sleeps due to the reply time and the time difference !) and I understand that it isnt an exact science as he is not sure of how many of each model will be delivered in each shipment until they arrive.

As to who to pay, sometimes I have been given an invoice from the courier at delivery time to be paid to them and others I have recieved the invoice in the post a few days later, it depends on which courier I think.

will update this thread with any changes as I learn them.
