I bought this at best buy like 4-5 months ago and it worked perfectly for a few months but as of late its been freezing randomly, if sound is going it just spurts it over and over again but there isnt always sound going when it freezes.

Currently running a mem test, I'm already on a fresh install of windows 7.(Hoped this would solve it, also got the ATI drivers so yay.) Also it says bios are 211.

anything I need to check out? I see other problems on the forum that look similar, I already updated the Realtek drivers, I dont think I even have the creative installed. I use steam but it freezes even with it closed. Going nuts.

    Help! :(

You need to do a full HDD test, looks like the freezes are HDD related.

Have you cleaned the exhaust vents regularly?

The JH freezing problem initially did relate to the sound drivers however that has been fixed and if you have not got creative installed it should not be that.

I agree with mharidas if you have the latest video and sound drivers and no memory errors flagged up you need to rule out the HDD as mechanical drives locking up are common failures. Install HDDTune and run a full health check to see if any error or damaged sectors flag up.

Alrighty, I have one small problem. I installed HDtune, unfortunately, no way in heck my laptop can stay on long enough to finish, it has gotten ridiculous today, freezing within 20 minutes every time. I did a quick scan and found nothing.

And I used a can of air to clean it out not to long ago.

Did you ever change the 5870 mobility bios to the new one? Its the v93 BIOS, its needed to work properly with the newer catalyst drivers from AMD. The stock 5870 mobility BIOS is only good for the older catalyst drivers.

Just checking, I guess you have already updated that BIOS. Laptop's BIOS is fine, version 211 is good enough.

I appreciate all the comments thus far, At the risk of sound like an idiot, does the bst7 share the same vbios as the other g73jh? if so can someone link to a guide, there appear to be multiple in the sticky, and I'd rather not mess it up cause of my own stupidity xD also how can I check the vbios?

Not at all, it is not necessary to find the cards to be always similar even on the same brand/model. Revisions to PCB can result in a new card that needs a new BIOS. But in this case the 5870 mobility is the same on all G73JHs regardless of the sub-models.

Here is a guide for the flashing of the vbios.

Dear god my hands shook the entire time I was prepping the flash. o.o'

Anyways it seems to be fine for now, I'm in windows at least so it's not any worse. I'll update if it freezes or if it works for an extended period so anyone with similar problems can find it.

Thanks for all the help guys. I really do appreciate it.

Did not fix, Im pretty lost atm. I flashed the bios, browsed the internet for a bit and about 10 minutes later, frozen again with the sound repeating.

Can you please install and run HWINFO and check the sensors box when loading and post a screenshot of the information.

It does sound the same as my HDD when I punched it mind.
