    Hi guys,
I have the posibility to buy a g73jw at a rather low price (i7-740qm, 6gb ram, 2 x 640gb @ 5400 rpm, fhd screen, etc.) but it has an azerty keyboard laybout.
Can I replace the azerty layout keyboard with a qwerty one? I am not used to azerty layout as it seems rather odd configured (azerty french, not belgium) and would love to have a qwerty one?
Is the keyboard coded in bios /software in any way? Or changing it should be a breeze?

    Thanks

I would think you could order one from the asus website and you'd probably have to update the drivers and such so it would recognize it.

AZERTY french is awesome! ... for typing in french. C'est pas un avion :p

Anyways, yeah, they're easy to switch. No screws or anything - just pop it off, detach the cables and put the new one in.

No driver update needed - but you might need to change your language settings.

The laptop comes without any OS installed so if I do buy it I might change the keyboard jsut before first power up.

Yeah you won't have any problem changing it.

Also you are able to change the keyboard under configuration from azerty layout to qwerty layout. You will still have the azerty keyboard but it will act as a qwerty. When you press the a which is where is the q is in qwerty, you will write the q.

This may help until you get the new keyboard.

This is if you write without looking if not I don't belive it will help.

Yea I thought about that also; and yes I do type without looking.
    *nerd alert*
Still I am not very sure if I will buy it, as I have some "secret" information that the SW model will be out sometime around next week.
    Regarding price it's like this:
this g73jw for rougly 1300 euros
a g53jw (fully loaded, with i7 740qm, 8gb ram, bdreader, fhd screen, etc) for roughly 1450euros
or the upcoming g73sw for roughly 1550 euros (not sure yet of the pricing but will be around this figure)

lol there is a lot of secret information out there saying the same thing. Or maybe it's the same bit of info over and over again.

    Also, a fully loaded g53/73 wouldn't have a 740qm, it'd have a 940qm :p

Anyways, there is *ALWAYS* a better notebook coming out. No matter WHEN you buy, there will ALWAYS be something better coming out soon.

As for pricing, you may want to look into importing it from Gentech or Xotic PC ... (from the USA). Generally, even after duties, taxes and shipping, you'll save 200-300 euros.

The g73sw version quoted above will be shipped from the US and those are roughly the costs involved (~1650 euros - after a secon calculation).
I need to give it some serious thought. I believe 300 euros for the sw version vs the jw version I can get is worth, considering the new cpu and all the other extras (8gb ram vs 6gb ram, hybrid hdd vs classic hdd @ 5400 rpm, etc).
