Hi, first sorry for my bad english. I hope that someone will be able to understand.

I have G73Jw-A1 since 11 months. It's all stock. I did not have any problem until last week, my F: was full so I decided to transfer some movie on my G:. I wasn't thingking that I had so much movies so I selected all and tranfer all. I transfered 180 gig of movie on my G: (G: was virgin at that time because I never click on him in Explorer). The transfer began and it suppose to take 35 min. So I go away and come after about 30 min but the time elapse was a more than 1 hour... so I wait and it take about two hours. When it was done, I go on my G: to see if everythings work fine and it was not... I mean really not! When I click on a file (not double click, just one click), a kind of "green progress bar" begin to run where the adress is written in the Explorer and the progress bar take about 20 min to reach the end. When It was done, some video are accessible and other are not. Video accessible just for few minutes and after and I need to close it and restart all the process of progression bar. If I try to transfer file from my G: to F:, the speed transfer begin really fast and is slow down with the time of transfer until it reachs 1mps. Now, I begin to have the same problem with F: partition. My C: is correct for the moment. I buy an external hard drive yesturday to make a backup of what I can. It takes me all the day to transfer few file on the hard drive. I try each video tranfered and it worked well. Today, I plug my external HDD and at my surprise, there is nothing on it and win7 pop me a message to suggest to format it. I'm little discouraged!!

Do you have any idea about what could be wrong or what can I do? If my only choice is to send it RMA, I will...

    Thanks for any help

First thing you should do is check your second hard drive for errors. If it is a seagate, use their seatools utility. If it is another brand, they usually have a utility available on their website. If there are no problems with the drive, then we can start looking elsewhere.

Oh and also do a full scan of your computer, virus/malware/spyware and the like just in case.

Your English isn't perfect, but it is quite good, far from the worse i've seen.

Merci tijo ! I'm from Quebec city.

I use Seatool from Seagate and I had a problem with one of my hdd (second drive for F: and G :). Short test told me that I had a problem (with an error code) to use Seatool Dos version to be able to repair bad sector. So I do it. My hdd had 99 bad sectors at 70% of the long test. The software stop the test and ask me to repair bad sector. All sectors are succesfully repair. I restart my computer and I have the same problem. If I go on my G: partition, it's very long to wait to have access to my files. A green progress bar begin really fast and goes slower and slower... and it takes a couple of minutes to have access to one file only. At each time that I click another file, the progress bar begin again the process. Maybe I can take it in video and put it here to show you what it does.

Tomorrow, I will try to do another long test with seatool (it take about 1,2 hour) and I will put an update here. If it doesn't work, I will send my g73 for an RMA. My problem seems to come from the controler module between HDD. The speed to transfer a file from my first HDD to my second HDD is really fast at the beginning and it goes more and more slowly until the end.

Thanks again for your answer tijo... it helps me to found bad sectors at least !

Hey, a fellow Québécois. I'll stay with english to comply with the rules. If you need a part of my post translated, feel free to ask though. I'd call asus and setup a RMA ticket with them if your laptop is still under warranty. The good new is that the Canadian repair center is among the best, the bad news is that you're going to be without your laptop for around a week since the repair facility is in Markham, Ontario. If the second drive return errors, then it is probably dying. check the first HDD for errors, if it is a problem with the SATA board/controller, the main HDD should also return errors. If the C drive is fine, then that means the second drive is the culprit.

If you only have a case of a dying hard drive, you may want to simply replace it instead of sending the laptop to Asus.
