    What media player?

I have the G55, but it can't that different so I imagine you use Cineplayer since it does what you say.

PotPlayer has no problems. This is my player for everything on anything (except Linux, that is VLC ground).

Anyway, to answer your question, you have Settings, Disc tab, Perform hardware test. It should stop.

windows media player, and been through the options and nothing to check or uncheck that disables media player from accessing the dvd drive when playing a file or strarting the program

Sorry. I have never used WMP, I do not have it and can't look to see what it might be wrong. I had Cineplayer since it was on a new laptop and I wanted to see what it does. I find Potplayer much better than most players around.

Just install VLC and forget WMP. WMP isn't bad though, but if you're having issues with it constantly reading the drive, then switch to something else.

That being said, it could just be that it is checking to see if anything is in the drive.

I'd start with simple elimination, software. Try a new player and see if it helps.
