After months of gsod related headaches, I finally decided to RMA the thing. I was told that they might have to format it. I would just back it all up to an external from the laptop, but I'm getting the gsod after the machine has been on for only a minute or two (not even long enough to install a video driver). So, there's no way to put my data on an external from the laptop. Is there any way to remove the hard drive from the computer without voiding the warranty?

    Thanks

Removing a HDD from a laptop will in no way void your warranty, they are both easily accessed from the bottom panel. Oh and by the way, the solution to GSODs is the new vBios not RMA.

Thanks. I did upgrade to the new vbios. My story roughly: get gsod's on games. upgrade vbios successfully. still get gsod. realize i'm on newest ati drivers. uninstall newest ati drivers. start getting gsod two or three minutes after turning the computer on (not playing a game, just sitting there). unable to either install asus-recommended drivers or reinstall newest ati drivers because of gsod.

Somewhere in the middle of that process I found out that my cpu was idling at 70 c and my gpu was idling at 90 c. So I think RMA is the only option now.

what BIOS and vBIOS are you on? (and please, do not just say "latest", I'd like some version numbers.)

I went into the bios and this is what it says on the opening screen:

    version: G73Jh211
    VBIOS version: 012.020.000.032.0383.G730

Also, I gave up on installing the older driver and decided to try the newest ATI driver. It installed and both cpu and gpu seem to be running about 7-8 C cooler...

Well not really. Now I'm back with a laptop that idles extremely hot (58 c cpu, 83 c gpu) and can't play games. Still have to RMA, though at least now I can back up my data easily. Does anyone have experience RMA'ing this laptop? How likely is it that they'll fix it?
