First thing I did with g73 was installing an OCZ 120gb Agility and using the 500gb as a backup drive. I couldn't believe how much bloatware was on the original install.

Not to waste the SSD, I configured some things:

I put the page file on my 500gb disk.
I also set the environment variables(TMP) and (TEMP) to my other disk. So let's say my secondary drive is E:\. I made a folder e:\temp and pointed them to there.

Congratulations, you won't be disappointed. :D

I'm also getting my g73 soon - how bad is the bloat ware and is there any other way of removing it other than a fresh install?

How will having the bloat ware effect the performance?

I've never installed an OS and don't want to break my new laptop.

I'm going to have to write-up a FAQ for Creative Audigy Advanced MB Working Guide since there is far too much FUD on this forum suggesting the only fix for Creative is to uninstall.

That's what should be done with useless software.

Just because you couldn't figure out how it works doesn't mean it's useless.

It's not about figuring out how it works, it's about knowing what it's for and determining it was useless.

A lot of it takes up disk space and just more of a nuisance than anything else. You can download the .ISO of Win7 64-bit from here,

    Win7 ISO Link

Burn it to a DVD and do a typical install from a disk. A side note, after you install and get it running you might have to call the Microsoft activation line. It was simple, fully automated, and took about 5-10 minutes to activate my Win7.

Unless you play a game which uses EAX, or want to use the superior CMSS-3D headphone mode for improved HTRF while gaming. In that case, the package isn't useless. It's only useless for YOU, and your needs. I wish you'd get that point thru that skull of yours, as it is getting irritating and also spreads FUD.

eax emu would be nice for some older games but to use words like superior and CMSS-3D in same sentence is just silly ;)

The CMSS-3D HTRF code for Headphone Mode is what survived from when Creative acquired Aureal and killed off A3D. So yes, I would say superior to what is out there.

A3D was great there is no question (i still got my Diamond Monster Sound somewhere) but CMSS-3D ruins 3d audio positioning by exaggerating everything beyond a joke.

I use headphones exclusively and I have been gaming for 25+ years, with audio being very important part for me, I got big box of old sound cards to show my dedication in search for audio perfection, and I can tell you that good setup doesn't include gimmick that the CMSS-3D is. FACT is that if you use it with game that use good positional audio engine all you do is ruin hard work that was put in to audio coding.

I use external DAC and headphone amp for my headphones.

But if you are interested in desktop soundcard, believe the Asus Xonar STX is the best out there for consumers before buying professional grade. Xonar STX has decent caps and switchable op-amps to improve the sound a bit. And a 1/4" plug for your bigger headphones.
