I'll keep it short and sweet. I changed the thermal paste out on everything (chipset, cpu and gpu) few weeks ago.
I've done this before but last time, since there are like 14 places to put thermal paste/pads on this thing, the pc tech I took it to put new pads onto the gpu places where it needed pads and paste where it needed paste, then pasted the chipset and cpu. well that paste burnt out in about a year and since i knew how to apply paste, i did it myself. another year went by and had to do it again. this was a few weeks ago.

I dismantle it, see the pads are decimated so I chose to fully clean and remove all old paste and pads and then paste everything. my specs via hwmonitor are fine for everything except the gpu.
just on facebook it runs to 94 celcius D: I know that's TOO close to the tjmax of the nvidia gtx 260m so i have a cooling pad under the laptop which brings it down to around 80 to 82 celcius.

my question is this: im thinking i need to put the thermal pads back on instead of paste. but what size thermal pads does this model take? 0.5mm? 0.7? 1.0? 1.5? 2.0? 2.5? 3? 5? 6?

also i read that under the gpu are MORE pads...... how do i get to those?

also, yes, i bought some better thermal than arctic 5 for this next go around. and im going to give the heatsink a good blowout as im sure that's half the issue. the new thermal im getting is Gelid solutions GC-Extreme thermal compound.
    hopefully that will work better......

have a pic of my current temps WITH the fan under my laptop.

Do not use paste on the Ram pads, there is too much clearance, You want i think 0.5 or 1mm thick thermal pads for the GPU. This is why your card is overheating, because the paste is too thin on the ramchips. Try using Phobya thermal ram pads.

Artic Silver 5 Is'nt that good anymore, You want to try to use Arctic Cooling Mx-2 or MX-4 and make sure the screws are down tight.

If youw ant to get at the pads UNDER the gpu you will have to take the entire unit underneath off.

Might be a little late but yeah, I agree with those suggestions.

Don't forget you can stack 2 thermal pads to get the right height.
