I am buying this friday from best best buy 500gb harddrive 6 gb of ram. is there any reason to not buy it from best buy and should i buy the 2-3 year warrenty for it?
-
Have you read about all the problems the G73JH model has? Do check it first to see if its really what you can deal with. Link is in my sig.
-
wait to see what the G73jw is gonna offer and then buy, it shouldn't be more than a week or two...
-
G73JW wont be released until September is what is going around.
-
First u rly should w8, the new G73JW and the new G53JW which a smaller version should be out soon, mid to late sep.
Secondly, i wouldn't recommend BB.. pay the extra cash and buy it from somewhere else -
Im also gonna wait for the G73jw (need it for rendering and games
, i just wish that they gave us a clear confirmation on the date, so we can start taking out our wallets
-
Well caution is always your best friend they say. as for myself i dont think i can wait ive waited on this rig for a while now. it may be missing a few components the A1 has but nothing i cant add on later. im calling in a couple debts so i hope to have mine by the evening. wish me luck

it makes much more sense to release it now for the back-to-school sales -
Any idea on the G73JW?

Guys, I have the ASUS G73JH from Best Buy..... I can still return it, should I do that and wait for the G73JW? What will be upgraded, tell me some more about it?
-
I am with HellCry. You couldn't pay me to buy another Asus laptop now. I would look elsewhere to spend your hard earned money, but thats just my opinion.
-
Id return it, but its your choice.
Install 10.7 drivers and run furmark and youll see what happens. -
I recently received mine as well. I've had a few issues, but nothing major, in my opinion.
Still, if it's as bad as you say... Do you know of any laptop within this price range (below 1600) that can play games just as well, preferably with a 1920 x 1080 screen? I'm not saying that as a challenge, I'm just curious- if there's something better for the same amount I'd happily buy it. -
Anybody else with there opinion about returning this thing and just waiting.....?
1300 dollars is a lot of money for me, but honestly I haven't experienced to many problems? Is it because I barely installed drivers?
Give me some pro's/con's -
In this price range (below 1600) you can get:
SAGER NP8690 (Clevo W860CU), SAGER NP8760 (Clevo W870CU), MSI E7405-080US, MSI GX740-079US.
I highly reccommend the first two. Clevo was the best notebook ive ever owned, no issues, no complaints and they are completely customisable - you choose all the components. -
Make damn sure if you buy from BB you don't get the AOU screen. Even the newest model AOU screen which most of you guys said wasn't that bad is HORRIBLE compared to the one I got off Amazon.
IMO its better to just get one off Amazon or somewhere because it comes with a warranty ect. -
Thanks for the suggestions. I'll definitely check them out... It's too bad, since I really do like the look of this computer, and it certainly will be a hassle to get a new one. Hopefully I won't have any issues with getting a full refund.
Still haven't made up my mind on returning it, but all of the issues I see everyone else having are definitely making me nervous. -

I would replace it with the second Sager Hellcry mentioned, but for it to match my G73JH-A1, it seems like it would go out of my price range. So, since I haven't been having too many issues, I feel like it may be a better idea to pray some sort of fix comes out.
Although I don't like it, I can deal with a GSOD every 2 hours or so when gaming (although I only got 1 after running the ffxiv benchmark 10 times)- it's complete unplayability that would annoy me. But... if it turns out that these laptops can't play FFXIV at all, I feel like there would be enough of an uproar that Asus would be forced to do something. That's what I'm hoping, at least. -
-
I am on 10.7 on my third GPU and so far I haven't had an issue, but it's only been a few hours of gaming. At this point I am not even sure a vbios update will be able to correct GSODs as it seems there are a lot of questions about the quality of the components Asus used to assemble the GPU. -
Dont get your hopes up. It was the same story with the W90 and Asus never released a new driver after the trouble started (last update on their support site for that model was 2009/09/18, you can go check yourself). Its not happening here either.
It isnt ATI, they specificaly said that Asus is responsible to report the problem and they would be happy to release a customised driver if they did, but Asus hasnt moved a figer.
i am buying this friday, unless
