bought my g73 3 months back.since then i had like couple crashes and i though it would be ok to ignore it but then.....

    Uploaded with ImageShack.us

and this is only 6-7 min into furmark. funny thing is it didnt crash or anything.i just resorted to stop it in case something bad might happen. but when i do game for hours on end it does fine. the crashes only happen randomly.

so right now i dont know exactly what to do. should i RMA this to asus? really need some help.

PS: im running 10.6 for my vid drivers btw.

Its running hot, thats for sure. Whats your ambient?
And try running hwmonitor in the background while playing a demanding game for about an hour at least and post your max gpu temperature after that.
By crashes i suspect you mean GSODs (grey/pink/green or any color screen with lines)? It should help to revert to 9.12 or 10.1 drivers, since 10.6 are known to cause these issues on the g73jh (do a full uninstall, reboot, keep pressing f8, enter safe mode and in safe mode use driver sweeper to clean up the remains of the 10.6 driver, reboot and install one of the two suggested drivers - 10.1 from Asus support website should work fine).

    That's hot as hell.

I would check if the fan is working, clean out the dust and put some new thermal paste on the GPU and CPU.

update: i tried both 10.6 and 10.7 drivers and still the laptop goes up to 101 C on futuremark.. tried gaming on both drivers for about 20 min each and temp goes up to 96 C. im starting to think that this may be due to poor ventilation :(

ill give 10.1 a try as suggested. anything else i should try?

My Furmark temps stink. I really do need to redo my paste and pads.

also, the fans do work cause every stability test that i did i noticed the fan kicking into high gear at exactly 97C everytime.

wouldnt i void my warranty if i were to change out the paste on the GPU and CPU?

A max of 96C during gaming is okay.

There's no warranty sticker on the GPU heatsink but there is one on the CPU. Your CPU temps look fine so I'd just do the GPU, but I don't think even that is necessary with your temps.

96 might not cause any problems in the short run, but you aren't doing the GPU any favors keeping it that hot.

I would do something about it.

Out of curiosity what is a good range for the gpu as well as that of the cpu in this particular model. I know that the range changes depending on the hardware involved and I am curious as to what a good range would be for the g73...

Theyll say anything to keep you from complaining.
The fact is the higher the temperature the sooner the gpu is likely to give out on you and from my previous notebooks i can tell you none even reached 80C at gaming, ever (the Clevo not even 70C) and not even 90C in furmark. And they all had top gpus of their time (8800m GT, Crossfire Mobility 3870, gtx 280m & Mobility 5870).
The Clevo had the thermal shutdown limit set at 100C, just consider that.
Asus even raised the thermal shutdown limit in new bios from 105C to 110C - my speculation, to have less RMAs, since as i hear they are already barely keeping up with all of them.

    @mokylim
You only ran Furmark for 7 minutes and already had 101C, and i can tell you the g73jh will reach its top temperature at around 15-20minutes, so id say youd probably overheat if you left it running. And you havent run it long enough to get a GSOD either, since if you got them ingame already youd surely get it in furmark if you ran it long enough.
If i were you (if youre comfortable and skilled enough) id open it up and check the paste/pads contact on the gpu and repaste it if needed (could be either screws not tightened enough or bad paste application, which can be fixed by yourself, or bent heatsink or just a hot gpu which will require a rma).
And for your GSODs, the solution is installing 10.1 drivers from Asus website.

So what your saying is, we won't void our warranty even if we ripped the laptop apart and removed the GPU??? That would definitely temp me to open it up.

Only unscrewing the cpu heatsink will tear the warranty sticker, otherwise noone can tell and youll be fine.
