    Hi Guys !

I am a new (half) happy owner of G73JH

I have a problem, my i7 720qm CPU reach only Multiplier x20 = 2,67 Ghz, single core. I tried with the newest bios 211 and also an older one 209 - but no luck at all. I got my notebook last week, so its brand new.

CPU-Z and also the Intel Turbo Monitoring Tool only shows my max Speed @ 2,67 ghz (CPU-Z also shows max 20 Multiplier).
I tried wprime single core test ... also max 2,67 ghz. I also uninstalled Power4Gear ... didnt help. I also set processor state @ 100% low and high ... didnt help

    @ 4 Cores it runs with 13x = 1,73 ghz, i think thats normal

If u are asking, if there were any BSOD or GSOD or some kind of problem - no, the notebook seems to be running fine. I already played games like Starcraft, Metro 2033 etc.

Is there any kind of solution? I already looked for an intel turbo driver, found 1 @ asus website, but didnt work 4 me. It didnt let me install the driver.

Please Help ... i just hate such small flaws.

    best regards
    Zodrac

Ok guys ... i solved this problem.

Virtualization Technology was the reason ... after disabling it reach 2,8 ghz single core. Also CPU-Z shows max multiplier 21x.

    Thread can be closed

    best regards

Hey I'm going to hijack this thread. I think my g73's cpu isnt running as fast as it should be. On CPU-Z its saying core speed 931.0 MHz multiplier x7 Bus speed 133.0 MHz QPI Link 2128.3 MHz.

This seems really wrong doesnt it? Are there any tests that I can do to test if the CPU is running properly?

    Please help

Try observing the speeds while it's under load. It will downclock when idle.

Did you try running the game on battery. If i recall correctly, your CPU is downclocked while on battery power depending on your power settings. Make sure that your are plugged in and that your P4G Hybrid profile is set to high performance.

In simple words are you saying disabling VT in the BIOS the processor jumps still higher??

yup i made sure i am plugged in and on high performance.. i can't figure it out why it doesnt jump up. It's as if it thinks its permanently on battery.

Yeah, dunno why ... but after disabling VT in the BIOS my processor is able to reach 2,8 ghz (21x). This is my 2nd Asus g73jh ... my first one died on my first day after 3hrs (suddenly i smelled some burned stuff in my g73) and i remember that i hadnt that kind of cpu problem, but it came with bios version 206.
My 2nd g73 came already with 209 and new Ati bios version -> still no BSOD or GSOD etc. :D But i repasted my GPU, because the burned smell still remains in my nose ^^ (dunno if it really was my gpu).

wasnt there some sort of bug with the g73 in the early days where it would stay on the battery mode clocks even if u plugged it in again after having been on battery mode?

does the problem still occur if u are plugged in and on full performance power profile after restarting the laptop?

I thought it might have something to do with the intel speed boost driver but i could never get it installed.

The driver is just for the gadget.

Sounds to me like your minimum/maximum processor state power management settings aren't at 100%, or you aren't testing under load...

How are you checking the multiplier value? Have a screenshot?

Hmm...looks like it's not doing such a l33t job with the tuning... :)

Since you're not on standard clocks, I'll let the OCing experts field that one.

Check your ratio with HWInfo32, it gives you the ratio in real time.

Also, if your cpu state are at 0%, your ratio will appear at 7x jumping in loading. If you change the state to 100%, your ratio must appear at 20-21x (is not stable) in HWInfo32, indicating your cpu is full load. cpu-z wont give the real picture.

Also, I use P4G to change the state, and trust me, it behave as I explained.

    I've tried to use HWinfo32

i've also tried running wprime to give me some load on the CPU and I ran a game at high settings to see if i could get it to load the CPU and not much is happening it doesn't get too high. Never changes

I've used P4G and set it to high performance and 100% on cpu states.. and still nothing.

OK, IMO seems to be a PARKED CORE problems, since your cores speed is not jumping and remains stuck at minimum. Do some troubleshooting first and follow the instructions of this post:

    Parked Core Solution

BTW, regardless what the numbers say, are you having slow/sluggish performance (games, websites, wherever) with your laptop?

Just for make sure is a windows problem....

When you are in the BIOS, the fans ramps as a hell? I'm asking because in BIOS there is NO CONTROL over cpu speed, so your cpu is always at maximum. By this your fans should increase the speed cause the hardware becoming hot.

Yeah core parking won't do that.

I've been searching and searching here...someone else had the same problem....if I could look further back than my last 300 posts I could find it no problem :(

i wish i could.. but i went in to throttle step and tried to force it to change the FID but it wouldn't. So i started unchecking boxes and then i checked on that box that does the more data and all of a sudden it kicked in started to wake up and the multipliers started changing.
