So I realised that Amazon won't sell the G73SW-XA1 into Canada. So i'm looking at amazon.ca's G73JW-A1, and notice a different processor. What are the differences? Will the i7-2630QM improve gameplay?

Also I heard the i7-2630QM has integrated graphics, is that true?

On the JW how is the touchpad buttons? As its one button

I think before you decide anything you should make some comparisons, there may be other computers that will suit your needs/budget/performance better. But of course first we need to know what your budget is, and what kind of computer you are looking for? gaming, entertainment etc?

Hmmm, to tell you the truth you made a pretty good choice for your budget and the size of computer you want. I wouldn't really recommend buying it off amazon though as I'm sure you would want a warranty thats longer than the 30 days they give you or whatever. Take a look at Gaming Laptops - XOTIC PC - Gaming Notebooks - Custom Laptops - Custom Notebooks, they carry it as well, and I know for a fact their warranties are great. plus gives you a little customization if you so choose. as for the processor, the I7's are more than powerful enough, so it really wont affect your gameplay much at all, if any. As for the touchpad I'm not really sure about how that would be on ASUS... but my alienwares is also a single button and I haven't had any trouble, besides if you really want to play games on your laptop your going to be using an externam mouse anyway.

    Unnecessary comment...

I'm pretty sure the 2630qm easily out performs the 740qm and it does have integrated graphics. If you are playing games that are heavily dependent on cpu (WoW) I would def recommend it, regardless though its a faster machine and I would choose it over the 740

The sandy bridge is a 2nd gen processor as long as its not pre repair then you will see a big increase make sure it is a legit model as there are a lot of pre repair sandy bridge's still being sold by companies. Intel are claiming it is 30-40% faster than the I7's although the I7's are very fast you would just be future proofing wth the Sandy and for gaming/CAD/editing you will see a marginal difference.

The JW will most probably do everything you need. You really want to think about price.

The JH is the version with the single bar touchpad and its not great the JW they split it into two buttons and fixed the problems it had in the JH mostly.

    Read this article....

ASUS G73SW + SNB: Third Time?s the Charm? - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News

It compares the SW to the JW. Gaming performance does not really improve except for CPU intensive games like StarCraft 2 or Civ5. CPU performance is up to 50% better than the JW. The i7-2630 has integrated integrated graphics but the SW does not support it, but does have much better battery life than a JW.

See if you can get this.... it has a better warranty and hardware vs the XA1.

True enough it is a much better processor, but you are misleading him by saying it will give him a big increase in gaming performance. Most games don't even take advantage of CPU's (GTAIV and few other titles excluded). however it is true that more games in the future will so its a great thing for futureproofing. But Dallers has a good point, make sure that they are shipping you an ES processor, or pre repair... which I don't really know what that is??? I feel fairly secure that a company like Xotic wouldn't do that, but I've been wrong before and its better to be safe than sorry.

Nice find Valkerie, thats a really solid price for that laptop! +1 rep

There is a long post on the forum about companies doing this and its very bad because its a faulty chip.

You can check here if the version you have is a pre or post sandy bridge.

Yes its all about future proofing with a sandy and the rate that Intel are coughing out processor's it will be out of date so fast.

My I7-720QM is the slowest of the 4/8 processors and I haven't found anything it cannot handle with ease. Get the JW for a good price and your sorted.

I know, I feel as though really they are just shooting out things faster than other companies can take advantage of them... mainly people who upgrade every time a new product comes out are just buying the new name :D LOL

Dont get me wrong though my ego would rise massively by my clocks being able to hit 3.4ghz in turbo mode :)

Its a bit like RAM and GPU memory we all know that we dont need as much as the laptop can offer or having a RAM and HDD slot free its not about what you need its about pushing the bugger to its limits! Upgrade Upgrade Upgrade and then throw on every single benchmark you have and watch the temps burn :D

I think you might have misunderstood me, I said....

By that I meant gaming performance was NOT different except for CPU intensive games. I was citing the article I posted which has numerous benchmarks showing the JW and SW to have identical frame rates, except for Star Craft 2 which is CPU intensive (Civ5 is also so I assumes likewise for it).

Hopefully that clears up what I was trying to say, sometimes I can't understand myself.

I actually think the XT1 models are actually pre-recall units, at least one members was. This they are a great deal and the recall is covered under warranty.

I think he was referring to me gent I mentioned that Intel claim it provides a 30-40% increase over the I7 in Gaming/CAD/Editing.

True enough... Cheers, i keep resisting the temptation to upgrade. The CPU boost is huge, but since the graphics are the same it makes more sense to wait for a 560m or something.

Me? I'd get the XT1! For $100 more you get Blu ray and a better warranty.
