Friends, I have win 7 64 bit, Using primarily IE 9 32 bit (or 64). On many sites jpg and png file do not display just see a x. For example http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/380681-asus-utility-bloatware-guide.html (the first thread) the first 9 JPG show perfectly, but live update jpg is a red X, fancy start is a red x also (but is it a png), contol deck is also a red x (jpg). I have checked for malware and viruses in safe mode (MB and MSE). The OS and security programs are totally up to date. runnning 11.2 CCC.
Did a reset on IE from advanced tab - when IE restarted and prompted me I used all default settings, cleard all IE cache, made sure show pictures is on in multimedia sections of advanced internet options. Did many searches but only found IE 8 and older fixes.
Bottom line Fire fox portable shows all 'web pictures fine' but so did IE 9 until about 1 week ago.
Short of a format... has anyone been able to fix this issue? Thanks Joesa

I remember that used to happen to me way back in earlier versions of IE. Found that it was linked to timeouts loading the page, as in, it is taking too long to load, and IE settings forced it to stop trying. I have no idea off the top of my head where to change that in IE9 (because I really can't stand internet explorer).

Just checked some of the broken pictures, they simply aren't anymore on the server where they once were. Or in other words, nothing is broken on your site, the pictures simply have been deleted, or the server is down.

Normally it is because that the picture has been removed however sometimes it can be your internet settings not allowing the picture to be displayed if it is being taken from a site that is potentially dangerous o that it is flagged as spam etc and this will be blocked with an X.
Do people still use IE? I switched to Firefox many years ago and never gone back -
I get 4 X accross the middle of the page (all png files)
see attached please
this happens on many other sites also.
I have never used the Guest account , so after enableing it, rebooting and logging on as Guest --- BAM same issue. -
Yep, i get the same thing. The things we do for people on notebookreview
(i can't remember the last time i used IE before today, i avoid it like the plague since version 7 which didn't run well on my old P4). Opera just doesn't display the images (the red x isn't there), so i don't think the problem is with IE9. If the red x bothers you, use another browser. IE isn't bad but there are better alternatives out there.

When you say better alt. do you mean fire fox 4 (I installed the portable version on another (Vista) machine and it also displays all png images that are not broken at the server level.
Mite_Jan I hope you are kidding and forgot the emoticon. -
When i say better options, i mean chrome, ff4 or opera. Personally i use opera since it has an integrated e-mail client and i find it works well. There might be a few compatibility issues with opera though. Firefox is great for all the add-ons available. There are other alternatives as well but i haven't tried them. You can try them and keep the one you like best. I find the three i listed to be more responsive than IE too.

If you don't like the red X, then there is in the settings of IE (since version 6 or longer) an option to change "Display image placeholders". If you get the red X, then this option is enabled. It's under the Advanced Settings.
And yes, I primarly use IE since years, but this is a personal thing and thus I don't discuss about it
