I found a very good deal ( I thought ). A friend of mine was selling his laptop for cheap 1200$ can... g73.

    with full HD screen
    8go ram
    i7 720
    5870
    1to HD
    bluray

    pretty much full equiped

I had and still own a m17x r2 cheapest version

    i5 520
    4go ram 1066 for sure
    5870 also
    1440 screen
    250 hd.

Well I ran a 3dmark06 on both and I almost got the same score. maybe 1 or 2 hundreds more on g73 but thats it.

Wondering if its normal or maybe Im doing something wrong. Was planning to sell my m17x to someone for same price I bought the g73.. thought it was a good upgrade.

    + full hd
    + 750 go hd
    + blu ray
    +4 go ram
    +i7

It pretty much just measures the video card ...

You gotta remember it's measuring performance à la 2006. So if two systems are both super-crazy way-too-fast, they'll get approximately the same score. You'll see a bigger variance of scores in the mid-range.

The m17x is a nice rig, I'd resell the g73 and get a CF 5870 for the alienware.

Yeah, you would have tested them both in 1280 x whatever. Same resolution test for 3dmark, so resolution doesn't actually affect the score.
