I'm getting excited for the coming Crysis 2 and Battlefield 3, but apparently
they are bit too hardcore for ATI5870 (also 460M i think), it's not quite possible to play those game smoothly on full max settings. After reading several reviews, it looks like getting a desktop GTX580 is the best way to fully run those games.

Anybody know a way to add and external graphic card to G73? There are couple of video reviews on youtube talking about the ViDock thing, but I see it connects to a laptop through PCI express card slot, i looked all over my laptop and couldn't find it.

    Any other options?

Have you tried the multiplayer demo? I ran Crysis 2 at full HD with Extreme settings and it kept a steady 50fps what more could you want?

I cant believe I was thinking about getting the GTX 460 over the 5870 as im a lover of Nvidia I have mine clocked at 800/1100 running at max 80oC and it owns the GTX!

I get on average 40-50 on that as well at high settings although my GPU runs at around 70 max so it may just be that I have good temps are you getting high temps as that could be dropping your frames.

Try out the demo its free to play and you will be surprised the 5870 handles it very well.

I see a lot of people complain about bad performance on BC2. And it honestly seems to happen regardless of the machine.

I, however, get excellent performance in BC2, with shadows on the second-to-highest setting.

I run the Crysis 2 multiplayer demo on Advanced, 1920x1080, stock clocks, and i get fps between 26 - 40. You can not ask anymore from a laptop.
If you want to play these games on the highest setting, buy a desktop. period.

Personally however, I think it looks awesome on 'gamer' settings, and i don't notice that much difference between that and 'advanced'. Besides, if you're a hardcore gamer, the games are more about gameplay, and no matter what settings (that are playable = over 26 fps) you play it on, it will be the same ;).

@Schockie: Yeah, the best CS players used really low quality textures and such, just to make sure they had smooth FPS.

I really dislike the lack of distinction between "hardcore" and "have-lots-of-money-and-want-to-see-prettier-shadows".

I have the 1600x900 g73 and Im able to play BC2 with everything at max and 4xAA at about 45-55 FPS. Just make sure you have up to date vid drivers.

I forget which one but one of the catalyst drivers upped BC2 a TON.

Does max out settings include max AA for you? if so that's your problem. HBAO also causes fps loss and doesn't really improve image quality.

well that's ture, i do turn on AA and HBAO on max settings, and yes by turning them off i do get a lot more frames PS. It's just the graphics look more realistic with AA and HBAO on, :D or, maybe just some psychological effects with everthing on.

Asked about this too. It probably can't be done based on what i've read since the gpu of the G73jh is "asus customized" (can't change it with a non-asus gpu).

And that if it we're possible, the other factors that you have to look into are the BIOS of the gpu, and if the watts thingy of your laptop can handle the gpu.

And all these things hassle me just imagining it. :|

The 5870 would still be pretty good than most of the stock gpus out there since it's in the top 20 ranking of the mobile gpus. (based here), so you'd be probably fine with it.

Man do i learn lots of cool and useful things in this site. :D Thank you NBR for the knowledge! :D
