Hi.
My laptop has been kinda fuzzy lately, suspected that i had deleted some files i shouldnt have when win7 started bugging, worked fine after a fresh install, but still had a probem with files going corrupt when i transferred em between my external hdd and the internal one, so recently i checked the S.M.A.R.T info via crystalDiskInfo and it says that i got warning concerning my hdds status, the Reallocated Sectors count says that the current value is 100 and that the limit (think thats the right word, got this thing in norwegian) so my question is, will this hdd die soon or is there something i can do to fix this?
And, if the answer is RMA, would i be perfectly fine by buying a new hdd instead of sending it in, i mean, this shouldnt give me problems with the rest of the laptop, got a ssd i can live with untill i get a replacement and sending it for RMA is less than tempting since im stuck on a cold small place up north in the army, considering freight taxes etc it wont cost me much more to get a new hdd instead of an RMA.
Sorry for the wall of text.
Regards

Yup, SMART warnings are meant to tell you the drive is dying.

It would be very strange for your reallocated sectors count to be exactly 100. Make sure you're reading the utility correctly.

Could make a good excuse for getting a bigger HDD.

To let you see for yourself i attached a prt scrn of it.
@Chastity, same conclusion i've made now, just debating 7,2k rpm vs 5,x k rpm, cant say i need 7,2k for a media hdd, got a ssd for games and OS.
any thoughts?Attached Files:

Your best bet is to read up on "best hard drives for 2010" or some such article. You'll find that occasionally some manufacturers 5200rpm drives are better/faster than other manufacturers 7200rpm drives -

Tad off topic for the OP: Jaså ja sitter fast på Skjold eller noe ? been there done that xD iallefall så ta kontakt med stedet du kjøpte maskinen fra og ta en prat med de, muligens de kan få til noe for deg. Verdt ett forsøk iallefall
English Translation of the above in an attempt to rectify my mistake: Oh really stuck in Skjold or something ? (Army Base up north in Norway) *Part in English assume no need for translation ?* Anyway get in touch with the place you bought the computer from, have a chat with them, maybe they can make something happen ? Worth a shot atleast -
Get a Momentus XT 500 Gb.
I installed a WD Black 500 Gb as the second HDD, and after 3 months it died!
Temps were way too high IMO, 52C - compared to the constant 41C om the XT. -
I kinda want more than 500gb, but all i can find that is bigger is western digital, atleast here in norway
Edit: could maybe buy an external tho, plenty of those with more storage around, just peel of the shell and put it in. -
The WD´s are OK too, but they get hot compared to the Momentus XT.
(Måske du kan bruke varmen oppe i kolde Norge, jeg sidder i Bangkok, 32C, Godt Nytår!) -
I'm curious as to what would happen to the drive if you try to low-level format it. Yeah, WD drives are only good for desktops, their 2.5in drives run way too hot for comfort.

Throw me a guide on how to do it and i can try to answer your curiousity
atm its garbage anyway so worth a shot. -
