    Hello,

    I received my g73jw laptop (i7-740, 460M, 1.5T, 8GB ram) and I have a serious problem with my printer!!! (canon mp250)

After installing the drivers and all the software from printer's cd, testing page is printed normally, windows recognize the printer just fine,

BUT when I am trying to print anything else from Word, excel, or internet explorer a window pops up which states that printer is not responding.

The printer works just fine on my old laptop...

I have downloaded and installed all the drivers i could find but still nothing!

Is there anyone else with the same problem?
Is there anyone who can help me solve it??

    Thanks =]

If you can print a test page, then it's an application problem, not a g73 problem.

i found another post, with a person having the same problem, but with the difference of having two printers which do not work, not one..

''I just purchased a ASUS G73JW-WS1B laptop. It has a 17.3" screen, 1T hard disk and 8 GB of memory. It came with Windows Professional 64 bit and I have loaded Microsoft Office 2010 Professional 32/64 bit. I have a Epson Artisan 810 MFP and a HP 5P printers installed. Both printers are connected with my laptop via USB 2.0 through a powered Belkin 4 hub USB connector . I have set the Epson as the default printer. When installing the Epson I was able to print a test page with no problem. However, I cannot print to either printer from MS Word, Excel or Outlook. I get "print error" in the print queue window. I have tried connecting both printers directly to the USB ports on my laptop but still have the same problem. I have downloaded the latest print drivers for both printers and yes, I did download the 64 bit drivers for the Epson. I have uninstalled the Epson using the control panel "uninstall programs" then reinstalled the printer with the supplied disk then downloaded the updated 64 bit driver. I still have the same problem. I then fired up an old Dell D600 laptop running Windows XP and was able to print from both computers with no problem. I have spent hours on the phone with tech support for Epson and for ASUS. They put me through all the items listed above and finally gave up saying they could not help me. How do I get my documents to print from this computer?''

    http://www.justanswer.com/computer/4gxgr-just-purchased-asus-g73jw-ws1b-laptop-17-3-screen.html

Well, has maybe this to do with any asus drivers or the windows 7 installed by asus?

Well have you uninstalled everything, then used a driver cleaner tool.

Now just plug the printer in with no CD's. see if Win 7 has drivers for it.
If it does not follow the promts and try and use the newest drivers off the web site.

How old is the printer? Shot in the dark, did you use 64bit drivers or 32bit drivers? not sure if you get an error or not..

I found this thread while randomly searching for any fixes on my Asus G73JW.

I am having the same printer problems!

My first printer was a Cannon Pixa Mp250. I could only print the test page, but never anything through notepad, mircrosoft word, or through the my web browser. After reinstalling drivers and everything under the sun I went ahead and bought a new printer.

This time, my HP Deskjet 2050 J510 series is having the same problem! I had an essay I had to turn in today and by a stroke of luck when I shut down my computer with my microsoft word essay still in que it printed out, but now whenever I try and recreate the same scenario it still won't print anything. Well, except the test page, and it will print out HP Diagnostic test page and claim my I don't have any printer issues.

I had a stroke of dumb luck this morning, but if anyone finds a fix for this please post it on here. I'll let you know if I find a fix as well.

If this was a big problem, people would be screaming. Here's a protip: don't plug in your printer to the USB 3.0 port. Use the other USB 2.0 ports. I print from a network HP CP2025dn laser and have zero issues.

If you go into control panel >> Devices and printers, is your printer listed? Is it set as the default printer? [green check mark on it]

If not, or if the printer has a yellow exclamation mark, right click on the printer and select "Troubleshoot"

If for some reason your printer is not listed, select "add printer" at the top. Follow the menus.

If it's not set as default printer, right click and select "Default printer"

If everything is good, go into office and open a document, go to print, and make sure the correct printer is selected in the options page that comes up.

I know this is very basic, but sometimes easiest to start at the beginning before ripping things apart :)

Well after more dinking around with it, this is my fix. As annoying as it is...

Whatever your print job may be, leave it in the queue. Yes you will get an error and it won't print. Don't cancel it, just simply restart your computer, and once your computer reboots it will print. Now if you try printing anything else you will have to restart your computer again.

Did you download the latest printer driver from here?

The software doesn't specify 32 or 64 bit. It is a model currently being sold so a person would think there are no massive issues with the software.

The problem you are experiencing is 100% driver related. The driver is hanging the Windows 7 x64 print spooler. I would download the current driver from the link above. Uninstall the package and install this one. Don't double click the exe to install. Right click on it and choose "Run as Administrator" just to be sure. I cannot fathom why it wouldn't "just work" after that. I looked it up and it looks like a decent printer. I googled it and there doesn't seem to be a ton of people having any x64 related issues with it. I suppose there could be some weirdness with the Asus factory install of Windows that is causing a problem, but I kind of doubt that.

I'm using the USB ports that are on the G73 I didn't even know they were usb 3 x.x either way I tried every port that my laptop comes with if that answers your question.

Some other things I've done to get to the point where if I have a page in que during reboot to print is this. I went to Ports in the customize printer tab and unchecked enable bidirectional support 'cause alot of people suggested it in other places I've checked and in the advanced tab I unchecked enable advanced features.

This has been four days of trouble shooting this problem it sure is starting to look like a G73 related problem to me.
And I believe it is print spooler problem , the page always comes up for preview on desktop but NOT Laptop.

One other thing I have notice Ports report that it is a USB 1 that printer is plugged into G73 I believe has one 3.0 USB and three 2.0 USB connections

Ok check ever thing once again , printer has green check mark and will print a test page.

When to print a document printer does not show pre view page and does not print and now in devices printer has the orange indication that printer has a problem.

So concussion seeing how printer works just fine on Windows 7 on my desk top BUT does not work
Windows 7 on laptop PROBLEM has to be with G73JW not printer software is that not the case ??

Ok found work around with my Kodak 9250 If I check print directly to printer IT WORKS.
As soon as I choose Spool to the Printer for faster printing and preview document It does not work so it is a problem either with printers software or G73jw software when choosing Spooling of printing before print.
I would say because printer works fine with my Desk top PC it is a problem with G73JW laptop software.

So set up printers to print directly from Laptop fixed my problem.
Please let me know if you people with different printers and if this also fixed your problem.

There aren't any good conclusions to draw from it working on the desktop and not the laptop. The desktop has Windows 7 32 bit on it. The driver is completely different than the 64 bit driver. The 32 bit driver is probably almost identical to the package they have been building since Windows XP. The 64 bit driver is probably something they had to have written new or they shoehorned their 32bit package into a 64 bit driver. Either way, I believe Kodak has a problem with their 64 bit driver. You can certainly RMA your laptop if you like, but I don't see anything here that indicates that it is broken so far. Searching the internet for that printer provides so little information that we have nothing to go on. It's not very popular. I was hoping to find that it works well with Linux.

If you are familiar with VMWare, I would love to see what happens if you install VMWare player (free product) and download an Ubuntu (linux) virtual machine. Plug the printer into your Ubuntu virtual machine running on the laptop and I bet it will print just fine through that same USB port all day long.

Jody Thanks for your input. :)
I don't believe it is a problem with hardware >> laptop this is the problem I believe is in the software installed on laptop that is the problem or as you say printer software, but if it is printer software why would it work on other PC with 32 bit windows 7.
This is a brand new printer from Kodak just released I would thing they would have tested it on 32 bit and 64 bit but you never know.
The other thing is different people have same problem different printers so one has to consider this also.

It could be as you say 32 bit windows 7 on desktop 64 bit windows 7 on laptop but if it is Windows 7 64 bit problem everyone would have this problem with all printers it appears this is not the case.

However even in this thread there are some people with different models of printers with same problem I have.
So what is the answer to this ??

As far as trouble shooting this farther as you suggest I have wasted 4 days already on this and as I said printer works now if I print directly from PC to printer , no spooling.

I am very interested to hear from other folks that have same problem different printers and if this works for them also.

    @mel11:

As mentioned by Jody, the 64-bit driver is going to be different code than the 32-bit driver, so there's can be no logical expectation that the 64-bit one should work just because the 32-bit one works.

Have you tried clearing the spooler files? Unplug the printer, turn off the print spooler service, delete all files in the " %WINDIR%\system32\spool\printers" folder, restart the print spooler service (and make sure it's configured for "automatic" startup), and plug in the printer.

You are quite welcome. I am researching the printer on the Kodak site too. I'm not trying to be contrary. I hope it doesn't come across that way. You have a very good point about it being a new product and should work with x64 no problem. Is there a reason you don't connect to it wirelessly through WiFi? Can we try to connect to it wirelessly and see how it prints?

Question to those having this issue: Are you setting up your printer as a network printer?

Lately wife has been complaining of similar issues, and while it's probably coincidence, it can't hurt to ask ^^

Here is a step by step guide to connect for setting up the wireless.

    http://resources.kodak.com/support/pdf/en/manuals/AiOPrinters/ESP_Series/ESP-Printer-NSG_en.pdf

Do you not have a wireless router for internet access in your home? The printer can be added to an Ad-hoc network which is a wireless network between two peers (the laptop and the printer). To achieve this you will have to set an IP address for the wireless adapter on the laptop and also on the printer. This is not terribly difficult to do but it is not ideal. Once you've assigned an ip address to the wireless network card in the laptop, it will no longer join a WiFi network at a hotel, for instance, unless you reset the wireless card to DHCP again. It would be a hassle to set it up and then remove the settings all the time.

My printer is an HP 8000 series OfficeJet and it is configured to join the wireless network in my house. Any laptop in the house can print to it. Windows 7 actually sees the printer automatically. If you click devices and printers and then choose add printer, it offers the HP printer right away and asks if you would like to install it.

I have these same issues with my USB printers. I believe this is directly related to the new Fresco USB3 drivers avail through ASUS Live Update. The new driver is 3.0.105.11 everything I print anything I get a print ERROR in the print que. Even test pages. I discovered this because I did a complete reimage of the C drive back to fact original install printers and they worked. When I updated ASUS Live update they stopped. Old driver is 3.0.98.11. I heard about a setting in the BIOS to change USB3, but I'm too chicken to re-install the new driver as when I did before I could not uninstall it. Windows kept telling me new driver already installed and I've reimaged the C drive twice now. I'm sticking with the old driver and I think I'm uninstalling ASUS live update.

I think I have the same problem with my new G73JW with win 7 64-bit and a canon MX310 printer. I always get the "printer not responding" message when trying to print anything. If I troubleshoot the printer I manage to print one document, with a message saying that a print job in the queue was blocking the printing.
I also manage to print if I restart the print spool service, but I have to do this everytime I want to print something.

I do not think the problem is related with the printer H/W nor with the drivers since the printer works perfectly on another ASUS laptop (K52) with win 7 64-bit installed and same drivers. In addition I have tried any possible alternative, from re-installing the OS from the recovery partition to installing newest 64-bit drivers for the printer. Nothing worked.

Like mel11 I believe the problem is in the software installed on laptop at the factory.

Any additional hint (I will try mjslou solution).

    Hello again...

All of you who have the same problem with me, finally I found out the solution!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The problem with printing is caused by UAC ( User Account Control ) settings..

I don't know why but UAC does not allow the printing process to get done, so if you want to have ur printer working, you have to disable UAC..

    =]]]]]

If anyone manages to modify UAC in order to allow printers to print please post it!!!!

    @andreasxen,

Though disabling UAC solves the problem do you know what it was that UAC was blocking that kept the printjob from completing?

some people may not consider disabling UAC an option.

Since you posted the solution - I did some searching and found that one possible solution could be the c:\Windows\Temp folder settings when UAC is enabled. Navigate to that folder (with UAC enabled) then right click> properties> Security (tab). Verify that the current user has "Full Control".

Just a suggestion for those who do NOT want to disable UAC.

    In Peace and Agape,
    Trav...

Yeah I would never disable UAC. When you get the UAC prompts you always know whatever software you're about to run requires elevated privileges and if those privileges are granted, the software is capable of modifying the system.

I have never heard of UAC problems with printers except when installing drivers and/or network printers in certain situations.

IMO adjusting the printer's security settings is a better solution than disabling UAC.

I have the same problem on my G73JW-XN1 and canon mp830 multifunction printer. I cannot get my Canon MP830 usb multifunction printer to work with my new laptop. It scans, but does not print or fax (on a print the Canon's status window sits there saying "Collecting printer status" and the print queue says "Error - printing" - extremely helpful.

    Have tried:
-new usb cable (no hubs involved)
-different usb2.0 ports on the laptop, avoiding the usb 3.0
-installing different revs of canons win7x64bit drivers (no errors) but same result
-installing Microsofts built-in driver (no errors) but same result
-no errors in device manager when usb cable plugged in
-a Toshiba laptop with win7x64 and same driver settings works fine.
-updating the G73's BIOS to 203
    - disabling usb legacy support in the BIOS
-installing the latest Fresco usb 3.0 drivers.

Are there any issues with bi-directional usb support with this unit, or maybe usb3.0 stuff is stepping on this? I have no idea and have stumped Canon's tech support which is not difficult.

I'll try uninstalling the canon drivers (again) and run a drivercleaner before reinstalling. But I don't hold out much hope.

    Any ideas would be much appreciated /rf;

If UAC is blocking the service, then it seems that someone forgot to sign their drivers. Tsk Tsk OEMs... but it's only a guess.

One thing you can try, is when running the driver installer, try "Run As Administrator"

Thanks for the suggestion. Run as Administrator results in same.

    Have also turned UAC off,
and ensured full security settings for my User account
and tried cleaning the spooler files,
disabling print spooling and printing directly to printer

    with no change in result

    ok here are the results of some trials;
tried mjslou suggestion ==> did not work
tried UAC off ==> IT WORKED
tried changing permission to windows/temp with UAC on ==> did not work
tried reinstalling drivers with "run as administor and UAC on and with full
permissions for windows/temp==> did not work

It seems that the only thing working is setting UAC off. What could it be?
I do not like leaving UAC off, even though I am basically the only user of the notebook.

I have the very same problem with HP Officejet 5780 all in one printer. Tried everything and no success. Seems the print goes to queue and stays there,

Regarding the post above re Fresco USB3 drivers, a recent update was just released. Has anyone tried it?

FRESCO LOGIC USB 3.0 Controller Driver 3.0.110.12

Just curious, but do any of these printers support wireless printing support, and if so, why aren't you using this?

Well, I found a solution and my printer works. I called Asus tech support. They told me to do a factory reset. I did and all works fine.

The Asus live update keeps popping up asking me to update drivers. I did not and will not since I think this is what caused the problem.
A pain now putting everything back but a price I was willing to pay to get printer to work.

How do you do a factory reset?
I have already re-installed win7 from the recovery partition several times without any success. Is there another way to do a factory reset?

You should call ASUS tech support. On my G73JW this is what they told me to do. First shut down the notebook, when you restart it keep pressing F9. Follow the instructions for a reset.

    That's how I did it.

Finally found a solution. I've got an answer from the ASUS support which recommended installing the latest Fresco USB3.0 driver (version V3.0.108.16 or newer). The point is that on the support page for the G73, the latest Fresco driver is an early version which I thought it was the latest and corresponded to the one I had on my G73. Instead looking on their site I indeed found the version mentioned.

I installed and now it works like a chime with UAC on.

The link to the driver is below:

Here's what worked for me, I don't know which was the magic bullet, or if a combination, but the printer now works:

-Set default printer to another device,
-Installed the Fresco USB 3.0.110.12 driver,
-Shut the computer down and held the F9 key while booting (didn't get a reset prompt, tho, it just kept posting a few times).

    Hope it keeps working, thanks.

Having same problem. New ASUS G73JW. New CANON Pixma Printer. Get Printer Not Responding error whenever I try to print. Can print test page from printer. If I hook up the same printer to my Toshiba, no problem. I have spent two hours on help desk with Canon and they were unable to help after uninstalling, re-installing drivers. Called ASUS Tech Support. Tried reinstalling a driver. Then the guy told me to try restoring my factory settings (F9 Reboot) and re-installing everything else and to call back if that didn't work. I haven't done this yet. Seems like this is a fairly common problem with this laptop so why isn't ASUS more helpful with resolving it? Have seen some posts suggesting downloading newest FRESCO USB 3.0 driver. Has anybody on this forum/thread found a solution.

Oops - Didn't read far enough. Just saw Newbie's post about FRESCO USB 3.0.110.12 driver and F9 Key. Will try this. It's driving me nuts.

Here's a better idea: TRY USING THE 2.0 PORTS!! You don't have to use the pretty blue one y'know, you have 3 others... :)

Try this and let me know:

    (1) Open Control Panel
    (2) Click on User Accounts
    (3) Click Change User Account Control settings
    (4) Slide the slider all the way to the bottom (Never notify...)

I also just popped "3.0.110.12" (in double quotes) into Google and found this:

    H34TH: Fresco Logic FL1000 USB 3.0 Host Drivers 3.0.110.12

The Change User Account Control Settings didn't work: When I tried printing, I received an error 'A StartDocPrinter' call was not issued.

I think to resolve this with the Canon Printer I am going to need to install Fresco 3.0.108 or higher. The 108 was initiated specifically to address the problem with Canon printers.
