hey guys,
ive got a problem with my g73jh: one week ago i have updated the bios from 206 to 211 and the vbios to the beta version of gary key (i think its v93). i also updated the ati catalyst drivers from the stock ones to 10.8.
since then, i have keyboard lag on my usb keyboard. (dunno about the one on the laptop itself, as i almost never use it.)
but i dont have any missing keystrokes, just lag between the input and the processing of these inputs. that its happening on a usb keyboard means that loose connections cant be the reason this problem.
therefore, my problems dont resemble the known ones, so im creating this new thread. one week ago, i already had opened a thread about this issue, but i ended it thinking i had solved the issue by deactivating the amd external events utility. this was not true.
the really confusing issue with this keyboard lag i am experiencing is that it comes and goes without any traceable signs or symptoms. sometimes its there, sometimes its not. right now, its not. 5 minutes ago it was there when i wrote a post on some other board. it was really severe. now, its gone and also gone on this other board, so it has nothing to do with the website or program im using to write text. ive also checked the processes active in the task manager, they are always the same, no matter if there is lag or none at a given point in time. so the processes are not the cause. i never had the synaptics drivers installed either, so they also cant be the reason for my keyboard lag. but note again that im not missing any keystrokes, so i really doubt that my problem is the same as the "ordinary" one.
does any1 have ideas what else i could check to track down the error causing this keyboard lag?
edit: right now, when i was writing some edits in this post, the lag has come back. really strange.

your g73 may be using the default windows drivers for the usb.
i fixed external keyboard lag by updating the drivers with the intel ones
but you have to do it a lame way to actually get them to install
1) Download them from the intel website, ->Laptop Chipsets ->intel 5 series -> download drivers it'll be called like infinst911autol.exe or similar.
2) move them to the ROOT of a drive so in windows it would be like D:\ within the window
3)go to start, then in the search box type CMD. when the cmd comes up in the top of the start menu, right click and 'run as administrator'
4)in the command prompt type D:\ (where D is the drive you put it into)
the command prompt should now say D:\
5)type in inf then press TAB for it to complete the program name. then add the following:
D:\infinst911autol.exe -overide -overall
it will then pop up the intel program as normal (as if you had double clicked on it) but will update EVERYTHING it should do on the motherboard.
I had odd usb lag on my graphic tablet too until i did this, hope it helps. -
thanks for this answer. are u sure that the driver for intel 5 series is the correct one for my g73? i dont know which mainboard it is using and am too lazy to look it up
btw, even though i will try this, it doesnt really make sense to my why this keyboard lag should only have emerged after the updates of my bios, vbios and graphic drivers if the cause of it are chipset drivers. -
yea, it's 5 series,
I have a G73 if you read my Siggy
I also had a weird lag after updating bios/vbios/Catalyst, so it wasn't just you. i think we're just weirdos that use usb keyboards lol -
well, so far the lag is gone. but lets wait and see if it stays away for some more time.
but thx a lot for your help anyway^^ -
hey guys, after this problem disappeared for some time, its back now and driving me insane. i again get keyboard lag when writing on my usb keyboard on my g73jh, which i usually use. but the same lag is also there on the keyboard of the laptop itself. the problem is also there in safe mode and after i once again used the method siorah suggested above which worked some weeks ago.
this problem is starting drive me insane. does anybody have ideas what else i could try?
